Jen-- Keep watching for it, I saw it about a month ago. I think they repeat shows pretty frequently. :)

I watched it last night-was very impressed. Good info on it!

It was a good show but the whole hour wasn't about the Murphys. Strange, but the third story sounded more like somebody with celiac than the Murphy story.

Yeah Richard, come to think of it, I did too. I identified more with her case than with the little boy. Of course, I was DX at a much older age than he. Just shows how symptoms of celiac disease get mistaken for other things....

lovegrov Collaborator

Even Peter Greene said the boy's symptoms were very atypical. To me the real outrage was that the mother's doctor told her not to worry about family members having it, and that it took doctors so long to say, hey, she has celiac, maybe we'd better throw that test in even though this is an unusual symptom.

I havent seen this show, but have heard a lot about it. Its my understanding that the boy had a seizure(s)? I had a seizure (my one and only) about 3 months ago and then was diagnosed Celiac about 1 month after that. Neither my top notch neurologist nor my celiac specialist has been able to tell me if they are connected. Did this show discuss the seizure aspect at all, that any of you can remember?

I dont really remember them getting into the seizure aspect. Did he have a seizure? I saw the episode about a month ago...I dont remember if he actually had a seizure...he would kind of go into a catatonic (sp?) state. It was like he was zoned out...is that a seizure?

hmmm... I think it would probably be classified as a type of seizure. There are many different levels. Sometimes you are awake and conscious when its happening - sometimes you are not. I was not - I had a grand mal. I just find it all to be waaaay too coincendental if the seizure and the celiac disease were not related. Anyway - I will have to watch the show - i just keep missing it. Damn! these are the times when i really really wish i had Tivo.

I was cat sitting for my parents when this was supposed to be on and they have this channel, but I don't. So I rushed over there in time to see it, found the channel amongst the hundreds of channels and the show was actually on! I was so excited, I sat through the first two stories and they obviously weren't celiac, then the third one came on and I'm like "this must be it" and the symptoms were tired, diarrhea, but it wasn't celiac! I don't know what happened, but it was obviously a different episode.

She used to take supplements, but her abdominal pain is so debilitating that she hasn't been able to continue.  Her primary care team has been suggesting liquid supplements rather than pill form to help.  They just drew a lot of blood Friday and we are slowly getting all that work back.  I will definitely check into thiamine!  Thanks!

They have not done that yet.   We are looking at some other treatments to help. And you are correct.  The tickborne illness has been a wild ride.  Our whole family has been battling different tickborne illnesses.  Its expensive and exhausting.

I cannot tolerate it at all - triggers burning and nausea, ditto aspirin.  Here in the UK I take Paracetamol.

For back pain, I take a combination of Cobalamine B12, Pyridoxine B 6, and Thiamine B 1 (in the form Benfotiamine), which have an analgesic effect.  These three B vitamins together work way better than those over the counter pain relievers.  Theses are water soluble B vitamins that are easily excreted via the kidneys if not needed.  Thiamine will also help the nausea. Interesting Reading... Mechanisms of action of vitamin B1 (thiamine), B6 (pyridoxine), and B12 (cobalamin) in pain: a narrative review https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35156556/#:~:text=Some of these processes include,Analgesics
