The world outside of Rachelville is a scary place. :(

Nikki, I've probably said this too many times but garlic works wonders for boils.

The article on micro-waves is worth reading, I know they are quick but if we think about what processed food does to us and then add on being processed again fast again in a micro-wave in a way that changes it....EEK!!!!

I need a sobbing emotion thingy.

Please God, please don't let me be the type of parent that exists (existed) in my troop. They've thrown a coup d'etat, and didn't bother to let me know until after they were done :(

They've taken 3/4 of the girls, but deny recruiting within the troop

What's really wierd is that these are the same parents that were praising me just 3 short months ago...

Sorry to be a Downer, I hope everyone feels ok today.

I'm so sorry, Chelsea :(

You just can't figure some people out. Feel better :)

Anyone look at CNN -- wow!

PP (premature post) - - this is one of the reasons I was up a lot last night, got that news flash and I worry so.... :( Dingo Annie was holding my hand of course but that is not enough to ward off terrorists on airplanes.... :o

what else.....forgot now......

more later - - just a drive-by/pop-in..... :)

Cissie - the boils and the penicillin illness - - holy Lord - my friend's daughter almost died from STevens-Johnson, 106 fever burning from the inside out from her terrible antibiotic - huge lawsuits against that company - she lived, we had people praying in the hallway outside of ICU as humans were not allowed in as her body was one giant open bleeding wound....oh holy tangents how did I go there...but antibiotics are so wicked...

Vincent - do you have highly elevated C-proteins? hence the avoidance of carbs/sugar? my best friend has that......quite serious.....keep the heart healthy! sounds like you're eating well.

gotta go - - -

Hi Chloe!

It's nice of your mom or sister to let you in here. :P

Everyone else hello again.

I read through everything, but don't feel like commenting right now. I'll be back later. Gotta eat and talk to my mother (if my kids will let me) and stepfather for a bit before they live.

Talitha's appointment went great. She didn't have to have a blood draw......and let me tell you, was she ever excited about that. The nephrologist is familiar with gluen intolerance/celiac as well as DH. I was really surprised....he prefers the blood test but I told him we went through enterolab. Her HSP could have been worse because of undiagnosed gluten intolerance. That's what I think anyway. She needs to go back in six months. If she comes down with this after the first cold of the season then she will need another blood draw but will be able to go to her regular doctor. The nephrologist we see comes up to Vancouver from Portland.

Drive by here too; there's a storm coming.

Susan, penicillin is made from a certain type pf mold. Yuck! That's how I discovered I'm deathly allergic to molds.

A friend of mine was buried in Arlington. She had been an Army nurse, a lieutenant, in WW II. I bawled when the bugler played Taps. It always made me cry, but now it's personal.

Shutting down for the duration.

Good night, all. Pleasant dreams.

Oh Chelsea- I'm so sorry- that is lame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Susan- I love Taps (I almost typed Tapas  ). It's so beautiful.

I'm pretty freaked (well- not freaked- honestly more annoyed than anything) about the terrorist plot.

A) it sounds like it would have had a massive death tol if it had exceeded

B). Purely selfish but I'm supposed to fly on Saturday on United- one of the targeted airlines- and I'm so frustraed with my vacations getting messed up by:

1. stomach flu

2. C-Diff

3. flagyl for C-Diff

4. now a terrorist attack

I feel selfish- I guess I should just be relieved no one was hurt. :(:)

B--We completely understand. You've been through the wringer lately, and no one can blame you for being frustrated!

I'm also so thankful that no one was injured--I did hear that the death toll could have been huge. Such a sad, terrifying state of affairs. :(

How are you feeling today--any better?

Not hear the term "C-Proteins" before, but yes Hypogycelima can be quite serious.

And the heart condition... well is there realy any heart condition thats NOT serious? :D

Yes, taps makes me cry...I'm a die-hard scout after all

What this woman did is decide that she wanted her toy back (she was their leader in kindergarten). She called each parent and recruited them into her troop. The only reason I have 4 left is that she didn't want those girls, so she didn't call the parents.

When one parent said "I'd like to talk to the leaders about this" the woman said, "I'd rather you wait until I send them the letter"

So she's been recruiting all summer. Within the troop.

There are so many words I've used to express my anger, hurt, and frustration, but none of them correspond with the board rules. So much for the GS law

I am so sorry Chelsea about your troop. Another human who is teaching wonderful things to the young, by setting a good example :angry: . All I can say is do not lower yourself to her standards. You are GREATER then her and it will all eventually right itself.

Sorry about the troop, Chelsea. Working with youth seems to mean backstepping quite often. Sometimes because of the parents, sometimes because of the kids --depending on the age you are working with.

OMG I was going to post something about microwaves. Premature post sorry - haven't read the article or most of the recent posts. I've been thinking though about microwaves and how they probably affect all of us in a really really negative way. They apparantly alter the structure of the food molecules, which can in turn trigger an autoimmune response! Sorry if this was all already talked about (need to read the posts lol). I've just been thinking that microwaves could be a huge missing piece to the puzzle. Random tangent sorry.

Okay so funny story. This morning on my way to work I stopped to get some hot tea (because it's the arctic here LOL). They put milk in my tea and wouldn't fix it, claiming that's what I ordered HAHAHA. So then I stopped at Starbucks in a second attempt to get some tea, and to reveal which flavors were available, the guy working there had to remove three gigantic bags of bagels that were sitting ON TOP of the tea bags. I couldn't handle the visual of bagels on my tea bags so I left. LOL My third attempt to get tea was successful however. Sheesh. Okay back to work....

AndreaB Contributor

Meredith,

Poor you.

We got rid of our microwave a few years back....took it to Value Village. It does take longer to cook without it or warm stuff up.....but things sure do taste better.

Mother Hen needs to feed her chicks. I'll be back in a few. I totally threw my schedule off today. Had a lara bar this morning then didn't have time to eat again til 3. I did have some enjoy life cookies around 2 though. Mitch would shoot me if he knew I didn't eat until 3, of course he'll find out when he calls tonight.

Hope everyone's day has been good and that those who weren't feeling well this morning are better.

Meredith,

Poor you.

I really just thought it was funny I couldn't find tea without milk or bread in it. Sorry, maybe you had to be there...

Where is everyone today?

Hi Mango--Quiet night in R'ville!

Darn the luck about the tea :D You'd think that at least tea would be trouble free!

Nice to see you :)

Beverly and Karen, sorry you're feeling crummy.

Vincent, my sister knows ASL. She's taught it to her son from the day he was born, so it's primary language for him. When at a dinner table or somewhere else where you don't really want to discipline, she starts using it with him. Neither of them are hearing impaired. It's kind of funny, she starts flipping her hands around a bit, then he looks guilty and is quiet! :D Very cute.

Uh, huh, feeding our geese gluten ... comments like this ... we're going to need a picture minus the glasses and WE'VE GOT OUR EYES ON YOU!!!!! :D I think you might not be such the idiot you're trying to act like!!!

I really am an idiot! If you don't believe me...ask Rachel....she's the only one who knows me in RL!

Ummm...I noticed it too.

Will have to find out what this is all about.

Yeah Dave....best behavior!!! All eyes are on YOU! :D

Hmmm... You're such a liar! You said everyone was talking about my comment......when I was catching up just now I thought they were talking about geese...not what you said....I think you're the only one that was freaked out by it!:lol:

And in case you didn't notice....I like all eyes on me....it doesn't bother me any! :D

Are we going to have to do another nugget intervention!?!? :P:lol::ph34r:

If Mitch wasn't in a company truck I'd have him come down the extra 6-7 hours to intervene. :P

OK, when you get done, come up here so I can take a walk. I almost forgot how.....one foot in front of the other. No good with young kids.....I might as well crawl. :P:lol:

Now wait one minute.... how could I hijack any thread... I'm the nice, shy one

(psstt don't listen to Dingo)

If emu's are anything like ostriches, they bite. But the babies are probably harmless. :P:lol:

I had thought an emu was nice until we went to the wildlife safari in Winston OR. An emu was coming up to the car and Mitch told me to roll up the window. He was as tall as the car (little metro). I'm surprised he didn't bust the window or put a dent in the car he was pecking so hard. I'll never think they are such cute big birds any more.

AndreaB Contributor
Is an emu a bird? I do not know as am guite afraid of large winged things...

They are a lot like ostriches. I thought it was an ostrich but Mitch thought it was an emu. I think they are smaller than ostriches. If anybody has any more bird smarts than us, please pitch in.

I've been making a lot of black bean brownies lately because it's one of the few gluten free dessert recipes that actually tastes palatable.  I've also seen chocolate cake recipes with black beans.  Someone mentioned a cookie recipe using lentils in place of flour.  Just wondering if anyone's run across any tried and true recipes using beans, lentils or peas for desserts?  I've seen a lot of recipes for garbanzo flour but I'm allergic to garbanzo beans/chickpeas.  Was wondering if adzuki or pinto beans might be useful in replacing some or all of the flour in baking.  Since gluten free flours can be crumbly was hoping the beans might help produce a better, less crumbly consistency.  Any recommendations for recipes?  Thanks.

I've seen a lot of recipes for chia pudding, so I decided to make some with chia, water, cocoa and honey.  Didn't like the taste, so I added ground sunflower and ground pumpkin seed to it.  It tasted okay, but came out more like frosting that pudding.  I used to make pudding with tapioca starch, milk powder, water and sugar.  It came out very good but I haven't figured out what to use to replace the milk powder to make it dairy free.  Most starches will work in place of tapioca starch but quantity varies depending on the type of starch.  If I didn't add enough starch to get a pudding consistency, I'd add gelatin as well to fix it.  Avocado and cocoa makes a good dessert with a pudding like consistency.  Unfortunately, I have a bad reaction to avocados.

Seems like when I find a gluten free product I like, the producer stops manufacturing it and then I have trouble finding a new gluten free source for it.  What's worse, I've been contacting companies to ask if their products are gluten free and they don't even bother to respond.  So, it's making it very hard to find safe replacements.  I was buying teff flour at nuts.com and they no longer carry it.  I noticed Naturevibe has teff and soy flour.  However, I can't get a response as to whether their flours are safe for someone with celiac.  Can't get a response from Aldi if their peas are safe for someone with celiac either.  I know Bob's Red Mill has teff flour but was hoping to get a large quantity.  I've been using up the 20 ounce Bob's Red Mill teff flour too quickly.  Does anyone know of a good source for teff or soy flour?  Any recommendations where to get gluten free beans, peas or lentils?  I found some packages of gluten free beans at Sprouts but not much variety.  I've also been looking for lentil elbow macaroni and it seems like no one is making that now that Tolerant was bought out.  Any suggestions for safe sources for these types of ingredients.  Thanks.

From their website I see "organic barley leaf powder" as an ingredient. Keep in mind that the gluten is in the kernel, and not in the leaves. https://drinkag1.com/about-ag1/ingredients/ctr
