If you can stand in the middle of a candy store and not be tempted to taste even one piece for fear of spending a week trying to detox....you might be a Celiac.

Btw the top shelf liquor one is sooo true!

If you know what, and where, your duodenum is, you are very likely celiac.

Great topic, 1962!

Love it! Laughed out loud at the "if I take a sip of your soda will I catch your "bread thing".....

I'd like to add that you may be Celiac if you watch what people eat and think "you're NUTS!".

It is like watching some one intentionally eat poison

When you travel, you pack more food than clothes!

irish daveyboy Community Regular

This is taken from The Irish Coeliac Messageboard and is a true story, believe it or not!

Quote:

I was in College a while back, and was standing in line at the dreaded food counter, waiting to hear that inevitable question that all Coeliacs must endure "what would you like."

Ahead of me was a fellow student, and he turned to question me, "So, what are you in the mood for today.."

I replied "I wasn't sure" not wanted to blab out right away that I had unusual eating patterns!

He persisted though. "The pasta looks good!"

At this stage, I just thought I'd get it over with and said with as much gusto as I could "I'M A COELIAC".

He hesitated for a moment and replied

" Really, I'm a Saggitarian myself"!!!!

I laughed till tears came to my eyes...

Oh so good to laugh, what a crack-up, great wit and hummor here!

27. You are up late at night trying to develop a recipe for pizza without ........

Flour, Cheese, Yeast, Tomatoes, Beef, Garlic and Oregano.

Yep, been there, done that (except for the garlic and oregano ;) )

you might be celiac if you did a victory dance in the isle when you found out that fruity pebbles were gluten free

you might be celiac if being hungry away from home is your worst nightmare

you might be celiac if you use tongs to hold the fish flake container when you feed your fish and then was your hands compulsively afterwards

you might be celiac if you avoid passing the bread at dinner

There's a stomach bug going around and you are actually jealous of the people with diarrhea. (true story lol)

If you have spent $200 on food just to throw $150 of it away cos it went bad.

You've told a family member they can have some of your food just to find crumbs in it the next day :/

You've told someone that you can't eat gluten and tell them how it makes you feel and they say "I think I have that too!"

You tell family members this maybe why they have some of the problems they have just for them to say "I'm not giving up my food"

If someone has offered you unsafe food and before you can respond a friend or family member shouts out "They can't eat that!!" lol

You've gotten excited and bought something you think is safe just to get home and find you forgot to check for other things it has that you are allergic too.

You're brain hits the delete button after you tell it to remember something lol

Your colon looks at laxatives like they're Flintstones vitamins.

If you have more supplements than the drugstore. lol

If people seem have a harder time with you not being able to eat anything than you do.

You're brain hits the delete button after you tell it to remember something (Just kidding!!)

You've gone to the grocery store and were excited to find a gluten free isle just to turn around and see that it's also the bread isle. Doh! lol :D

It's the gluten free aisle!!!! No, wait!! it's the organic / natural foods aisle, no wait a minute, it's the international foods aisle -- oh what the heck, it's the "we just chuck everything here that we don't know where else to put it" aisle

The discovery of the vitamin D receptor in multiple immune cell lineages, such as monocytes, dendritic cells, and activated T cells credits vitamin D with a novel role in modulating immunological functions and its subsequent role in the development or prevention of autoimmune diseases.  The Implication of Vitamin D and Autoimmunity: a Comprehensive Review

Definitely get vitamin D 25(OH)D.  Celiac Disease causes vitamin D deficiency and one of the functions of vitamin D is modulating the genes.  While we can survive with low vitamin D as an adaptation to living in a seasonal environment, the homeostasis is 200 nmol/L.  Vitamin D Receptors are found in nearly every cell with a nucleus, while the highest concentrations are in tissues like the intestine, kidney, parathyroid, and bone.  A cellular communication system, if you will. The vitamin D receptor: contemporary genomic approaches reveal new basic and translational insights  Possible Root Causes of Histamine Intolerance. "Low levels of certain nutrients like copper, Vitamins A, B6, and C can lead to histamine build up along with excess or deficient levels of iron. Iodine also plays a crucial role in histamine regulation."

I forgot to mention my suspicion of the high amount of glyphosate allowed to be used on wheat in USA and NZ and Australia. My weight was 69kg mid-2023, I went down to 60kg in March 2024 and now hover around 63kg (just after winter here in NZ) - wheat-free and very low alcohol consumption.

Hi Jess Thanks so much for your response and apologies for the long delay in answering. I think I must have been waiting for something to happen before I replied and unfortunately it fell off the radar... I have had an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy in the meantime (which revealed 'minor' issues only). Yes I do think histamine intolerance is one of the problems. I have been lowering my histamine intake and feeling a lot better. And I do think it is the liver which is giving the pain. I am currently taking zinc (I have had three low zinc tests now), magnesium, B complex, vitamin E and a calcium/Vitamin C mix. I consciously think about getting vitamin D outside. (Maybe I should have my vitamin D re-tested now...) I am still 100% gluten-free. My current thoughts on the cause of the problems is some, if not all, of the following: Genetically low zinc uptake, lack of vitamin D, wine drinking (alcohol/sulphites), covid, immune depletion, gastroparesis, dysbiosis, leaky gut, inability to process certain foods I am so much better than late 2023 so feel very positive 🙂

Hi and thank you very much for your detailed response! I am so glad that the protocol worked so well for you and helped you to get your health back on track. I've heard of it helping other people too. One question I have is how did you maintain your weight on this diet? I really rely on nuts and rice to keep me at a steady weight because I tend to lose weight quickly and am having a hard time envisioning how to make it work, especially when not being able to eat things like nuts and avocados. In case you have any input, woud be great to hear it! Friendly greetings.
