  1. Best comment here yet! (And also very diplomatic.)
  2. Fluttering of the lower abdomen was THE SYMPTOM that forced me to start looking into why I was feeling bad. And once I cut gluten, the fluttering stopped. Anecdotal and certainly base at that! But abdominal fluttering and anemia were the symptoms that convinced me that my problem was worth investigating.
  3. Note that this is about a single cross-contamination scenario. If one were exposed to these sorts of condition for 3 meals a day, 7 days a week... that person would be doubled-over in pain most days of his or her life. ...Which is why I'm currently living in an apartment that is 3x the price I can afford and do not have a roommate: because NO ONE wants...
  4. @PhilSieg Tanq.Rangpur is certainly a better *quality* product than the original version that all the kids keep drinking because someone told them that everyone drinks it. (How to BREAK this nonsensical cycle???) Distilled products DO NOT CONTAIN GLUTEN unless they are "polluted" after distillation. On this point, I cannot help you, as the FDA refuses...
  5. Could the author please cite an example of this? As a craft bartender of 14 yrs--who has lived gluten-free for 10 yrs and who has many customers who maintain a gluten-free lifestyle--I would like to know more about bourbon producers who might practice this technique. I assume you are referring to something other than the technique known as "sour mash...
  6. I would transition away from disposable everything... and figure out a way to BETTER STERILIZE EQUIPMENT like they did in years past--autoclave, anyone? Too much plastic, not enough reusable materials in the medical industry!
  7. Hey, let's be fair: any veg on pizza is healthier than no veg on pizza. And while I'm no health nut, I do like my pizza to be at least somewhat well-rounded. Also, I maintain my stance: SO EASY TO ADD PEPPERONI TO A FROZEN PIZZA. (Multiple other ingredients, not so much!) And it's not like I asked for the Seafood Alfredo Pizza that we used to offer...
  8. So, I have a complaint about the general selection of gluten-free pizzas in stores. Because MOST grocery stores these days carry pepperoni (ususally in the dairy case, next to the cheese... or in the deli). So why is it necessary to take up valuable freezer space with both Cheese Pizza and Pepperoni Pizza??? On the other hand, it's far more difficult...
  9. I just DO NOT UNDERSTAND what the dairy industry's (as well as the general public's) obsession is with NON-FAT and LOW-FAT dairy. When I'm buying yoghurt, I always purchase the highest fat content I can find. And every time at brand gets launched that offers a higher-fat option, that option disappears within 6 months! It's INFURIATING to have to deal with...
  10. My spidey-sense says to pay attention to this article... but also that they do not have some of those suppositions correct: there are other factors for which they are not accounting. I cannot wait to hear about the followup study!
  11. @Scott Adams, I am not quibbling about facts. I am suggesting that holding Celiac-dot-com to a higher journalistic standard will make you more legible... while also providing better journalistic integrity. @Guest Gluten-Free, when we link articles like this to other educated folks and there is clearly a lack of editing standards, the content is de...
  12. Either way, it's bad editing... on top of bad writing. This article went through a minimum of two different layers in the journalist paradigm and both/all failed to articulate the facts properly. Sorry, but that is BAD JOURNALISM. Celiac-dot-com need to be held to a HIGHER STANDARD than this... nonsense.
  13. Terribly written and effectively says nothing. For example: Really? "Female immune response" is more aggressive and developed than in men? (You don't say?! Or do men also have a "female immune response"??? Your editors clearly are not paying attention to the way cultural biases translate from one language to another. This undermines the credibility...
  14. The majority of readers will forgive me, I'm sure... but this article contains quite a bit of FEARMONGERING NONSENSE! (Lychee is bad... bananas and pineapple are good??? Really? Because you can't grow any of them on mainland USA--at least not in quantity.) Globalism will almost always give you more and better options... as well as more balanced prices than...
  15. By encouraging parents of at-risk toddlers to avoid gluten, you could potentially be helping prevent many, many children from developing Celiac later in life. But my question is this: ARE YOU, THEREFORE, SKEWING THE RESULTS OF YOUR OWN STUDY in the longterm? Could future results negate the ones that you've so kindly posted here? Would love to hear...
  16. I'm just glad to see they're being honest... AND that ImmunsanT was willing to include us all by reporting to Celiac.com during the entire process.
  17. Terrible article! Next time, how about doing some INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM before putting your fingers to the keyboard!?
  18. I'll be honest (and I almost never do this): I didn't read the full article before writing this comment. But the thing that struck me on the portion that I did read is that YOU'RE PREACHING TO THE CHOIR. Instead, spread these ideas OUTSIDE the Celiac community. I know, I know: the average reader doesn't want "science", they want a feel-good article...
  19. Boy, that brown rice syrup (or whatever) must be SO MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE than maltose!
  20. I completely get that DD doesn't want to make gluten declarations on products they make in their own store: a bakery environment has the potential for crazy amounts of airborne flour that cross-contaminates other foods. That said, their outright refusal to keep pre-packaged alternatives in stock--like their recent foray into gluten-free brownies (which were...
  21. KarenG, I think you're missing my distinction between what you're saying (the way things *should* work) and what I'm saying, the reality that poor translation and what often times amounts to simply slapping a sticker on something to say it has an English-language sticker. I work in an Asian restaurant in a university town with more Asian restaurants...
  22. Have you ever purchased something from your neighborhood Asian grocery? Yeah, no one follows those rules. And it sucks, because Asian foods are so EASY to be gluten-free if they just get their s$#& together on the labeling. The more consistency on an international scale, the better EVERYONE will be.
  23. I don't tend to be a fearmonger, but I stand on the premise that any UN-DECLARED starch is un-safe. And really, is it so hard to simply declare the source of your starch? EVERYONE deserves to know what they are putting in their bodies.
