ARCHIVED Nuts On Clark
kareng replied to gilligan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I guess, that, it you don't trust a company when they say " gluteny free", you shouldn't eat it. Probably should just stick to one ingredient whole foods you can trust once you wash them off well. -
ARCHIVED Food Should Taste Good Sweet Potato Chips
kareng replied to heliosue's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So funny you posted this today! I was just at Natural Grocers and they had them on sale. I love the sweet potato and the multigrain tortilla chips. -
ARCHIVED Prep For Endoscopy And Colonoscopy For 5 Yr Old
kareng replied to Jackyvh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Read the prep directions. Usually there is a day of only liquids and the laxative part starts about 5 pm. You don't want someone with diarrhea swimming. That's a real health issue for all the other people who might use the pool. -
ARCHIVED Briessweetâ„¢ White Sorghum Syrups
kareng replied to quirozson's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Maybe you should actually talk to the company? Ask some questions? Looking at the website, it looks like they are very aware of what it means to be gluten-free, but if you don't trust that... You would need to ask them for more specifics. Maybe find some made by a local farmer? That way you can talk to them and they probably don't make anything else... -
ARCHIVED B12 Experts - Suspension Of Supplements Before A Test?
kareng replied to cristiana's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
For me, I continue to take my vitamins and see what my levels are. If they are at the high end, I know I can take less. If they are at the lower end or in the middle, I figure I am doing the right thing by taking them. If I am still low, I know I need to take more or heal more. For some vitamins, not taking them for a week wouldn't really effect the levels... -

ARCHIVED My Celiac Disease Is Causing Stressful Family Conflict
kareng replied to Coolclimates's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with everyone else. It's his house. Also, you said he is getting forgetful. Maybe he isn't even doing it on purpose? If you don't feel safe at thier house, invite them to yours. If your mom wants to help with the food - either in prep or cost - she can still do that. -
ARCHIVED No!
kareng replied to bartfull's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am not going to worry too much about this. The grains aren't what they want in the paper. They aren't crumbling all over my salad. Perhaps someone could ask how this paper is made before panicking? I don't think this is really a new thing. I have heard that various parts of wheat have been used in paper, paper plates, napkins, etc for a few years now... -
Casper - this may be more than a small glutening. You need to see a doctor RIGHT NOW! Call 911 or go to the nearest large hospital Emergency room and tell them what you are thinking inside. At least call the number Cycles gave you or your regular doctor.

ARCHIVED Nutritionist And Insurance
kareng replied to sbojo32's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Some insurance, maybe many, won't pay for a " nutritionist". Usually, it needs to be an actual certified dietician. Might try that? You could appeal, but that could take months. -

ARCHIVED New To All Of This - Questions
kareng replied to sbojo32's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Agreed! Gluten doesn't " hide" or "sneak around". We are talking about the U.S., but Caada, UK, Australia are all similar in that regard. You might find malt or wheat in places you might not expect - soy sauce, licorice, some brand of chocolate ice cream, one brand of enchilada sauce but not another brand, etc - but it is clearly labeled. You just have... -
ARCHIVED New To All Of This - Questions
kareng replied to sbojo32's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It's not a matter of how sensitive you are - no Celiac expert would recommend you purposefully eat even a tiny amount of gluten - like you get from shared fryers of eating the tops off of a gluten pie, cake, etc. Even if you don't feel it, gluten will stat the immune response and cause damage. "Eating any gluten, no matter how small an amount, can damage...
