  1. I was the one in school with celiac (I wsa diagnosed 19 years ago). 1. How many of you had to deal with schools/teachers who do not know what celiac disease is or how to deal with it? No one had ever heard of it. 2. What procedures did you follow to help your child and the teacher have a successful year? (health/learning plan or 504?) They decided...
  2. On another note, looking at your avatar makes me want to go wheeling. Ergh, my jeep is torn apart. LOL. And I don't feel like take the buggy out in the snow right now (fighting a cold). Oh how I long for warm weather.
  3. Welcome to the board, I am also in WA. A good place to find allot of gluten-free foods is located in Mountlake Terrace, if you are up for a bit of a drive. It is called Manna Mills. I have lived here my whole life and had never heard of this place until a few months ago from another member on this board. I can find things there that I can't find any where...
  4. I saw a blip about celiac on a local news station here in Seattle yesterday. It was maybe 15 seconds long and didn't say any of the symptoms and was very vauge. But I guess at least it is getting out there. My 82 y/o neighbor called me because she saw it also. She had never heard of it until she met me. She was excited to see something about it.
  5. I was on paxil and for me it was an evil pill. It gave me constipation and completely killed my labito. I also quit cold turkey, boy was that a mistake! I had road rage and was acting liking a physco. When people made me mad I wanted to beat the crap out of them. And believe it was very hard not to act on that impulse. Plus the anxiety attacks came back...
  6. I was one of those kids who couldn't eat beakfast. If I did I hurled it back up within the hour. Even to this day I have to be up for at least an hour or two before I can eat. My suggestion is give him a glass of carnation instant breakfast along with his fruit. It has plenty of nutrients in it and if you get the chocolate it taste like chocolate milk...
  7. I know the pillsbury cream cheese is fine. I had it about a month ago. Really makes me mad they changed the frostings.
  8. The sunstart cookies are available at WAl-mart for all those that have one near by. If I remember right they are about 3 something a box.
  9. Good, I hope it sticks this time.
  10. I was a teenage celiac. Of the many reasons that kept me on the gluten-free diet, the top 2 were. 1. I got horribly sick. 2. They knew back then that other diseases such as multiple scherlosis and scitzofrinia were some how linked to celiac. I didn't want to develop any thing like voices in my head or something that could put me in a wheel chair. Another...
  11. It usually also leaves a purplish scar as it heals.
  12. I had it years ago via a IV. So i know that form has no gluten. However I have not had it since, due to it causing me to hallucinate. Also I know that phengren is the generic name.
  13. Believe me, you can see it visually. I also disagree Larry Mac. That is one of the ways I can tell for sure when I get glutened.
  14. I know that as DH heals it leaves a purple scar behind. Allot of people with celiac do suffer from psoriasis, and it tends to get better after going gluten free. Some people suffer from it regardless, if they are gluten-free or not. It can also be triggered by food allergies. My daughter's friend gets it when she eats pork or corn. -Laurie
  15. You are coverd under in the cases of bringing your own gluten-free food on a plane, into a concert, etc. Unless they can guarantee gluten-free food can be provided for you. Beyond that the coverage can get a little grey. It is one of those laws that is open to interpetation. You may want to contact the Gluten Intolerance Group of North America -AKA- G.I.G...
  16. Allot of times stress and anxiety can cause what is called spastic colon. I have had it for years along with celiac. At times the stomach cramps can feel very similar. to celiac. I only get it when something stressful happens, such as a car accident or problems with work etc. -Laurie
  17. I believe it is nini who has the newbie kit. I don't have time to look now, I am litteraly getting ready to leave for out of town. You are a wonderful friend, I wish I had a friend like you. As for the sugar, and IBS. IBS is kinda of term for we really don't know what is wrong with you so....we call it IBS. Back in the day, they thought celiac was caused...
  18. LOL I thought you were calling them lesser evil due to them being gluten free and being the lesser of the 2 evils. I will have to look for them. -Laurie
  19. What is the brand and what are they? I'm always up for trying something new. Laurie
  20. For people like my sister is was a matter of not wanting to be tied down. She wanted to be able to pawn her kid off at a moments notice. Pretty selfish if you ask me. -Laurie
  21. Greg, welcome to the board. I'm in WA, so I can't offer much support in that way, but this board is full of people. You may want to make a thread saying where you are located and asking if anyone else is around there. -Laurie
  22. That really sucks, its normal to feel paranoid abut being paranoid. I have been there as well. Go sleep it off in your hotel if you can. Maybe take a hot shower, try to relax and crawl into bed. -Laurie
  23. So far my Dr. has been receptive to anything I suggest, let's hope it stays this way! I will only use igenex. Sorry you are feeling cruddy. I hope it is just part of the road to a healthier you. -Laurie
  24. And remember Dr.s are wrong ALL the time. If I would have tested positive for all the things they thought I had, I think I would be died years ago. Sending prayers and good thoughts your way. -Laurie
  25. Honestly, bottle feeding is more of a pain than breast feeding. You have to get up in the middle of the night heat a bottle and sit there and feed them. Plus washing and sterilizing the bottles. Mixing the formula and lets not forget the cost. As for breast feeding, pick the kid hop back into bed, tuck a pillow or you arm under there head and go back to...
