  1. I suggest an orthopedic massage from a therapist experienced in that modality and has trained in other modalities. Mine showed my specific exercises to strengthen/stretch neck and shoulder areas - and to fix my posture. I was sore for a month "retraining" my posture but now I am mostly pain free. That woman saved my sanity. And you probably...
  2. Pretty much ditto what IH said. I just found out I am hyper mobile in my major joints (shoulders, hips, knees). I have loose ligaments and tight tendons and I DON'T FEEL IT WHEN I OVEREXERT MY TENDONS/LIGAMENTS. And that is the worst part. It registers as "muscle pain". Just spent a few miserable months recovering from an almost torn ligament/strained...
  3. DH can flare off and on for years without a trigger. It may be diet related, it may not. The huge red flag I see here is that she just switched thyroid meds and she's experiencing classic hypo symptoms...meaning she feels worse. It can take time to adjust to new thyroid meds and to find the right dosage. It's also possible that her thyroid issues have...
  4. It may be that his numbness is a symptom of cross contamination from gluten. Some people have severe neuro effects from gluten, and just because he didn't have these symptoms before doesn't mean he can't have them now. Does he exercise? If he overexercises it could be a problem. lack of exercise can also cause oroblems. Has he seen a good massage therapist...
  5. Well, it isn't a resort but it is a B&B that accommodates food allergies and intolerances - and it's in the AZ Wine Country. Yes, AZ has wine!! We have stayed there (pre gluten-free) and the owner is wonderful and very conscientious and accommodating. Open Original Shared Link
  6. You should also order some Triumph dining cards. The cards explain what the cook needs to know, and the wait staff can take it back to the kitchen. I think this site sells them.
  7. I responded to your post on the other post... so look there. But I do want to say this. You need some super duper supplements. I was kind of wishy washy on if the brand, etc. would make a difference....and my new ND prescribes some specific ones that do make a difference. And I had taken some of the "good ones". The probiotic she put me on is some amazing...
  8. I would suggest that your primary symptoms that you FEEL may be adrenal, thyroid, and hormonal. And since those aren't resolved (and are so severe) you may not feel the difference from going gluten-free. You need a good ND or somesuch. Not a whack job, but one that has a MD and ND background that treats you to improve thyroid/hormone function/adrenals...
  9. Hey there honies, So sorry to hear you're both having such a bad time. After lots of reflection I figured out any sort of virus, illness would trigger DH in me (but my new flares were so much less than my old ones it was hard to figure it out). Quite frankly, it would trigger it more than iodine after 6-8 months gluten-free. Anyway, one thing that...
  10. I'm at the high altitude "line". I didn't cook here or in a gas oven pre gluten-free so I've been trying to figure my problems out. I tested my oven with a thermometer and its right on the mark...I've come to the conclusion I must raise the oven temp 10 degrees-25 degrees when baking. That usually does the trick. The lower temp the recipe calls for, the more...
  11. Soups, crackers, baked potatoes. I have a major craving for French fries when sick.
  12. Visit www.thyca.org and read the instructions for a low iodine diet. Lots of things can be high iodine. You have to figure out the worst ones for you.
  13. My new ND just put me on xymogen ep's probiomax plus df. It's pharmaceutical grade gut support. That reminds me...I need some oj to choke it down.... I think it's ok stuff. It's a powder and that's the bad part. I've been pretty regular lately!
  14. When I read about iodine and DH I was standing in the kitchen, stirring shrimp etoufee. I swore up and down that wasn't my issue. Well, guess what.... You don't have to do LI forever. It's not like gluten-free. It's to get the rash to calm down, then you can add it back to the degree you don't flare. I promise, it's worth it.
  15. My ND would suggest yeast overgrowth because of the bloating, especially when eating something that converts to sugar. I'd consider the digestive enzymes, probiotics. And you may need to be rice free and any other sugar (even those things that convert to sugar) free for a while. Could be a stage you're going through or you have another intolerance...
  16. In my neck of the woods quesadillas are made with soft tortillas - in my house corn instead of flour. I use Mission brand, the ones marked gluten-free.
  17. At a doctor's appt. yesterday she told me that supplementing 1k iu of d/day for a year equals apx. 10 point increase in a year. Soooo....for us that are severely deficient it will probably take time to get in the higher range of normal, even if we are on high doses. We do generally have absorption issues .
  18. Ask them to pull cheese and lettuce from a new container. I do, and they happily do it. Yes, I'm sure there's some cc but it is very minimal. Remember the only gluten is the flour tortillas...
  19. I dint know why, but the nd I saw yesterday had a name for it. I'll have to write it down next visit...delayed "something" response. It is real "medically"....

    ARCHIVED Rheumatologist

My advice is to try a Rheumy because you have AI issues. S/he can order tests and discuss things. You can take the same results to the nd and discuss it again. You don't HAVE to take meds. That's your choice. Get the info you need to make the choice.
  21. In the beginning it's really hard to figure it out. I would get an almost immediate headache at one point, flu symptoms later. "Ball in stomac" feeling 24 hours.... Finally, it has settled into a severe stomach cramp @ 24 hours, then reflux for almost 2 weeks. I did trigger an AI attack (so to speak) last winter by being too careless, too often, too...
  22. Exactly (peanuts are legumes, as are probably other "nuts" from the ground). And eggs are NOT dairy (milk). They are eggs, technically a protein. You need to educate yourself about food. You need to be able to discern if what you are reading, hearing, and doing are correct. If someone tells you something, look it up. Does it sound reasonable...
  23. One week gluten-free and if the only low iodine you are doing is non-iodized salt, is not enough to see if the diet affects your DH. Also, some people have DH, are on the gluten-free diet, and use dapsone and only keep DH "tolerable" for months. One week is NOT enough.
  24. I'm glad you found some! You can make your own butter, and even fresh soft cheese VERY easily. You won't be short of cream, either if they haven't let it rise. You may get some even if they have, if you let it sit again.
