  1. Let me give you some of our favorites: the best brand of gluten free pasta: Tinkyada. They come in all normal shapes and sizes. I tried every single type, I swear, and threw out every single one. Its probably the favorite of everyone on the board. Coke and Pepsi, etc., are gluten free. Some of Swanson's broths are gluten free. Most normal...
  2. My favorite is the Better Homes and Gardens recipe for Mac and Cheese, except we substitute Tinkyada pasta and use a little bit of gluten-free flour. I prefer Velveeta over the regular cheese, too. We all had it at my house for dinner the other night...delicious!
  3. Safe and Tinkyada brand rice pasta is by far the favorite of most people on this board!

ARCHIVED I Found A Great Doctor!

that is great to know! it gives us hope when we here of doctors who 'get it', even if we don't have doctors like that . I'm happy to hear you have found someone you can trust!
  5. luvmydogs, if you are going to get a biopsy, I suggest you calling your doctor and talking to the nurse and explaining the situation. Usually they will work with you to get you in if they know its a problem. They often say they can't....but they really can. It might be worth a phone call, ya never know. you are correct that you can't go gluten free...

    ARCHIVED Turkey

Richard, thanks for sharing that info. I knew about the allergen labeling law, but not the 'nutritional' part.
  7. I believe Applegate Farms is organic. Also-peace-if you are recently gluten free, your body is probably still healing. You may be reacting to "safe" foods because your body is still damaged by Celiac and it just isn't working right yet. For many people it takes months. So, just because you are potentially reacting to something now doesn't mean that...
  8. thanks for letting us know!!!
  9. It was also on MSN through MSNBC today: Open Original Shared Link I'm not a beer drinker, but this is all exciting! I think its great that it is obviously made with "our" population in mind, especially since it is such a growing market! And, great publicity! It encourages me that they worked with the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness on this. ...
  10. Yeah, I should've added that there are plenty of people on here, like Jestgar, who don't have an official diagnosis. That doesn't make them "lesser" on this board, by any means....no one on here will question if you feel better gluten free. Dietary positive response is just as important! Some have the gold standard (positive bloodwork AND biopsy), some...
  11. Welcome to the board! We are happy to have you here!!! There are two very potential possibilities: You have Celiac and for some reason, your bloodwork is not picking up on it. The biopsy can easily miss damage, because it is such a patch disease. You could have non-Celiac gluten intolerance, which is a non autoimmune disorder, but many people...
  12. Some people have apparently had some problems with certain Progresso soups, but I have not had any trouble with this one (and I am an EXTREMELY sensitive Celiac-I react at every gluten-free restaurant!!!). Progresso Creamy Mushroom soup is gluten free....it is not condensed, but it is pretty creamy. I heat it on low and add gluten free flour to thicken...
  13. It can vary from child to child, adult to adult, just like the symptoms vary. Some see instant results, some see gradual results, some don't see any changes and then, wa la! they do! I wish I could give you a more definitive answer. I would say a few months before you can determine if it is working (if you don't see results *right* away). It will be...
  14. ok M, this is going to be sappy, but i dont care. you are high on my list of remarkable people for all you have gone through....and that you still find time to be caring towards other people amazes me. xoxo
  15. I have gotten gluten-free products at Giant, Kroger, Harris Teeter, Farm Fresh, Safeway, Ukrops,..... it IS great to see them in so many places! It is so much more mainstream even from 2.5 years ago when I was dx'ed. Laura
  16. I use both generic and brand name...varies for what I need. I either research the ingredients myself, contact the company, or ask my pharmacist. The pharmacist will always call and double check, and have been very helpful! That is the best advice I have, is to have a sit down meeting with your pharmacist, and bring your drugs with you. I have yet...
  17. you wrote: "I've posted before that I'm not fanatical about crumbs etc but I NEVER knowingly give her anything with gluten. I am realizing that I am going to have to be fanatical. " Think of gluten like rat poison...it is a common analogy used on this board. Would you be comfortable with her getting just a tiny bit? Her body doesn't know if it came KNOWINGLY...
  18. RiceGuy, Caramel coloring, while it can be wheat derived, is very rarely wheat derived. Also, because of the 2006 FDA food labeling law, it would be REQUIRED to list it it were wheat. Plus, as Patti mentioned, it is from a company that takes it a step further and will list all gluten. Please be cautious of information that you share, especially...
  19. Deb, if you want to get it to me soon, I can include it! I'll PM you my email. xoxo
  20. Ursula, Congratulations to your family! She is precious and what a wonderful Christmas gift! Laura
  21. Zachsmom- I still want to insist that the best way to know if something is gluten free is by reading the ingredients, not counting on the presence or absence of anything that says gluten free. They are not required to do so, so mistakes can easily happen (leaving it off when it is perfectly safe). It will safe you a lot of worrying and time in the long...
  22. Stef, Thanks for the background on that. How frustrating about your "process"...i.e., the blood tests that don't really mean anything because they were done while you were essentially gluten free. Yes, it is the tTG, but sensitive or not, its accuracy won't be applicable because in general, you are not eating gluten. That is, if you test positive on that...
  23. Good suggestions, as always Rice and soy milk are not inherently bad, it just depends on the brand and some of the ingredients. But there are safe versions of both. Does she cook all her own meals? Is she eating out? Does she take steps to prevent cross contamination? What other types of things is she eating?
  24. Just wanted to welcome you to the board! I don't have a good cracker recipe....but I'm sure someone on here will chime in. Also, try a search on the forum...you never know what you will find! I think Miss Roben's has some pre-made mixes to bake your own crackers. You might try some of hers. Good luck, and we are happy to have you on the board....
