I drink Smartwater or fruitwater by Glaceau. The magnesium helps with muscle cramps. Some migaraines can be brought on by tightening of the neck muscles and dehydration. I also use a mind trick. Remember what it feels like not to have a headache. Sounds strange, but try it. Laura

ARCHIVED Foods By George - No Rye, Rye English Muffins
mommida replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Has anyone tried the Glutino pre-made duo cheese Pizza or the frozen rice mac -n- cheese? The buying co-op is starting to carry them and they offer new products at 20% off, so I really want to order them now. I just haven't found them in any store to try one before I buy an entire case. Laura -
ARCHIVED Teenager Just Diagnosed
mommida replied to jackie4's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree with the Kinninick tapiocca rice bread suggestion, but what ever bread you try, TOAST it. Glutino makes very good bagels, and Foods by George has a good english muffin (It is about three times the size of the english muffins I was used to). The recipe in Bette Hagman's Gluten Free Gourmet for French bread is awesome right out of the oven, but it... -
ARCHIVED Child With Constipation With Celiac
mommida replied to Nic's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes, my son has constiption when he ingests gluten. He also gets a rash so I do know that gluten is the main problem. Keep trying to retrain his b.m. habits. Have him sit and try after meals. It also helps to tell him to use the same muscles for voiding urine. Laura -
I told her that I thought that I had just maxed out my ass , seriously, you need to be tested for polycystic ovary and you need to have a fasting insulin level done. That is some good advice because PCO is considered to be pre-diabetes. We all know that we have a higher chance of developing another auto immune disease.

ARCHIVED Splenda
mommida replied to lemonade's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm anti-splenda. Your body can not digest it, therefore it has no calories. Do you think you should be putting something into your body that you can not digest? Splenda is Gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Little Bumps

Yes. Check the next time you get glutened they come right back. -
Would it be possible for you to look into a local farm? We have been ordering from a local farm and it is so much easier having to make a trip to the freezer for a dinner choice. We have found it is cheaper too. Cheaper than buying it from chain grocery market. We have been lucky to have found organic farmers and since they are sharing the meat they don...

ARCHIVED Do I Have Celiac's?
mommida replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Celiac can cause vomiting, especially in children. Celiac can also cause constipation, even though most complain of the "D". Laura -
I went through ten years of thyroid symptoms and "normal" test results before being diagnosed by an endocronologist. Most of the test should be ordered by your regular doctor, and the results should be taken to the endocronologist for diagnoses. For example, the test results for my thyroid uptake test would have been considered extremely overactive thyroid...

ARCHIVED Mcdonald's French Fries Not Safe?
mommida replied to pixiegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
WOW! Didn't look at this post because Mc D ff make me sick!! Any posters that have said that here have been BLASTED with the gluten-free list. So I think any supersensitve people have considered it cross contamination. We are not just Mc Freakin over french fries, we are trying to figure out what this oversight means for the bigger picture. We have... -
I do think you should consult an endocronologist. The diagnoses of of Hashimoto's, in my case took... blood work checking for T3, T4, ultra sensitive TSH, an ultrasound of the thyroid, and a thyroid function/uptake test. There is a reason why thyroid disease is in the top 10 misdiagnosed, your primary care doctor is only taking one test into consideration...

ARCHIVED Fritos....i Read They Were gluten-free
mommida replied to wolfie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Was it a special flavor of Fritos? Always read the labels. To pin point a reaction, is very difficult. The different variables of digestion can depend on how much liquid content, how much physical activity, the fat content of the food, and many other thing. No matter what, the most important thing is to listen to your body. If you get sick after you... -
ARCHIVED Gluten And Paper Towels/plates
mommida replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
A very interesting post. The glue on the roll would explain why your son (and any other Celiac child that age) would have a higher cross contamination from the rolls. Kids play with them constantly. We will only use wrapping paper rolls for all the cardboard fun from now on. Did you break down and buy the lightsaber yet? Laura -
ARCHIVED Worried And Wondering!
mommida replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Tiffjake has told you the same thing I would have. If you are going through with the testing you have to damage from gluten for any type of results. You past history has many symptoms of Celiac. The anemia, gall bladder problems, and GI distress are all symptoms of Celiac or a gluten intolerance. If your test results are negative, you can still try the... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerence And Thyroid Problems
mommida replied to tiffjake's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My treatment for Hashimoto's was just to go on the thyroid medication. Hashimoto's can make you thyroid levels go over active and underactive. The tests should find the tell tale characteristics of Hashimoto's, one of which is one side of the throid will be enlarged more than the other. There is a link between Celiac and auto immune thyroid diseases... -

ARCHIVED Are Pepsi And Coke Gluten And Soy Free?
mommida replied to swatson's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You might be reacting to the artificial sweetener. The Pepsi and Coke products are listed as gluten free. I did run accross an article that said test subjects did have elevated blood levels of gluten reaction after consuming COLA (gluten free). The article was somewhat vague in areas, or it isn't that much of an issue for me because I don't drink cola... -
ARCHIVED They Thought I Was Crazy And Sickly For Nearly 35 Years.
mommida replied to Timber4est's topic in Doctors
My favorite cook book so far is The gluten-free Kitchen by Roben Ryberg. Check with your library they may have some of the Gluten-Free Gourmet books by Bette Hagman on hand. I am glad you have finally been diagnosed! I hope you find all the help you need here. Laura -
Yes. I definately noticed after diagnoses when I was feeling better and drinking smart water. A definate increase in drive when some of the vitamin defiencies were resolved.
