Confusing Diagnosis Process
I have been aggresively trying to figure out what has been wrong with me for the past 18 months. I am 40 years old and have dealt with loose stools, fatigue and all over joint pain for 7 years. The results I have received so far are: vitamin d deficiency, vitamin b12 deficiency, esophagitis, chronic gastritis, duodenitis, delayed small bowel transit time, negative blood tests for celiac, postive gene tests for celiac, and the biopsies that were performed were negative BUT they were only takenCould It Be?
Gluten?! Could it really be? I've long since written it off. Especially as I see the previous commonly-missed condition become all the rage now: GI problems = gluten problem. Yet such a rare condition, all be it an extreme one, unlike traditional allergies/intolerances. It's caught me off guard in my latest attempt to solve the mess. Once again willing to do whatever it takes for a new kind of life--and more desperate than ever to figure it out. And once again left confused, lost,Strange Sense Of ...calm.
So, today I am exactly 4 weeks gluten free. Had some accidental glutten poisoning last weekend which resulted in another breakout of hives and no sleep that lasted almost one week. I have only been half-heartedly toying with the dairy free experiment up until 3 days ago. I would occasionally add a dollop or two of yogurt to a smoothie or put a little cream in my coffee which resulted in minor gas and scant bloating. But I decided to completely forgoe the dairy products for a few days just to1st Thanksgiving With Celiacs

13-yr old daughter needs to be on a high gluten diet, specifically 1 Tbs gold medal flour a day. She's not a sweet eater, so she doesn't want me to bake her anything. I decided to post a few items that I have found to be my "go-to" meals when I'm feeding my family and don't have the energy to cook 2 separate meals: Mexican - corn tortillas, yellow corn taco shells (Ortega are marked gluten free on the box), ground sirloin and some spices - good to go! The whole family will eat these! Some corn chips, salsa and you've even got a great snack! So, last night I went to 'Whole Foods' in Providence for a free tour of the store with other 'Celiacs' given by a Nutritionist/Celiac of 15 years. It was very interesting as we went through the store and she explained many of the products and showed us what to look for on labels and how the store will segragate many of it's gluten-free products in each aisle. Kinnickinnick gluten-free Graham Crackers + chocolate + marshmallows = Yum to the Oh Yeah! I never thought my trigger would be tripped by a plain ol' graham cracker! I have yet to master the way I got it once to be soft and warm in the microwave. They are no where near chalky. So nice. Unfortunately, I also laid my hands on some Andean Dream Quinoa Cookies-yuck...aside from $ down the drain, they're a waste of calories in the sweets allowance, so I spit it out. I have been sick for 15 years now. I know how long it's been because I was 14 years old and starting my sophomore year of high school when it started. I have chronic nausea, fatigue, and a bunch of other symptoms that are annoying. My main complaint is nausea. I have had so many tests done over the years and they all show that nothing is wrong with my and I am healthy. It wasn't until a few years ago that my GI Dr. sent me to have a test done to see if my gallbladder was sick. I was very sDoing Better:)
As compared to a couple weeks ago I am doing so much better. I don't remeber when thenlast time I had brain fog. So that's good and my energy has been mor consistant. I am still eating throught the night to help me in the morning but during the day I an eating less frequently and I know now when I need to eat something. The food i feelnis getting absorbed now because I'm sustaining longer on the food that I eat. I'm able to hold my food too I'm not always having to use the rest room. I still. GDr. Called
The Dr called yesterday with the results of my bone density test, and it showed that I have weakening of the bones.....Osteopenia....and am to continue taking calcium tabs with vitamin D. He is going to confer with an endocrinologist to determine what medication will be suitable. So I guess I'll be hearing from him again soon. Made some gluten free blueberry muffins last night. They are ok....I hope I become a better cook! Also prepared gluten free 'american chop suey' and shepards pie so I haDepression Confusion
Going to complain again. My whole life has been a blur. I don't remeber much in intermediate I started to lose friends and got really weird. Suicidle and self mutilation started then. Hih school I had little friends symptoms of celiac but I didn't know at the time a crappy school a gluten-free/friend that kept messing with my head. Well, today I go for a bone density test to check for osteopenia or osteoperosis. The dr just wants to see if there are any problems considering my age and not knowing how long I may have had celiac disease. Yesterday I made some gluten-free brownies using Bob's Red Mill brownie mix. They are actually VERY GOOD!!! Moist, and taste like real brownies! Added some walnuts... YUM!!! Much better than the one's that I got from the bakery. Those were sooooo DRY! Of course, I have my favorite resFeeling Different
I don't like feeling so different. The world has it's standards about health care. Western meds is what the majoriy believe in. I don't know what I. Believe in I know that my mom believes in eastern meds and alternative meds and healing so I am swayd by that but at the same time I want to be part of the majority. How do I explain to someone that I am being treated holistically while they keep quetioning why I do it I and how I should get a second opinion. Idk why what others think affect me soOverwhelming
Overwhelming. It's all very overwhelimg. There is so much to learn about c celiac or gluten intolerence. I hv no clue which one I hv. I thought it was celiac it's all so confusing. I don't want to start eating gluten again to ge tested. I'm already feelig like crap there is no way that Im going to make myself feel even worse. I've used the term "medically challenged" to describe myself for years. When I Google the term it seems to describe people with mental disabilities, but I think it describes my life perfectly. I've been sick since I can remember. When I was very young I would be so starving I would beg my mom to order me a lot of different foods and she would say, "Are you sure you want to eat all that?". Well, I just got out of the Dr.'s office. We went over all my tests and for the time being, in addition to now having to live 'gluten free', I am to start taking calcium and vitamin D tablets 3 times a day. Next Thursday I am going for a bone density scan because Celiac Disease can cause osteoperosis, and because of my age, and not knowing how long I have actually had the disease, the good Dr wants to see what condition my skeleton is in. I got home from work last night greatly anticipating having my home-made gluten-free meatloaf....I love meatloaf....the way I USED TO MAKE IT! I had to modify it by using gluten-free bread crumbs, and other seasonings. I was disappointed at how dry it was. The flavor was just OK.... nothing to write home about. Maybe the gluten-free bread crumbs absorb more of the grease from the ground beef? Maybe I need to use less of them? And maybe REAL chopped onions and peppers instead of the f-

Yes, I have one of the older models and have tested many products with it. For me it seems like a valuable tool and I have used it to test foods that I eat regularly, which are naturally gluten-free, for example salsa, refried beans, etc.

Has anyone tried the NIMA gluten detector? I'm seriously thinking of investing in one. I haven't eaten out at a restaurant since my late diagnosis 4 years ago (I'm 55 in March) Any information would be greatly appreciated
