  1. Welcome to the forum! I can tell you from my personal experience and research is that celiac disease symptoms can wax and wane. The symptoms can vary from person to person. They can change through the years (I was anemic and now if glutened, I get intestinal issues). celiac disease has been described by one celiac disease expert, Dr. A. Fasano as...
  2. Karen is right. You really can not second guess thyroid symptoms as they often overlap with celiac or other autoimmune symptoms. I personally had very few traditional thyroid symptoms, but lab tests showed I had Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Best bet is to get some lab tests. Sometimes we get fixated on one diagnosis. Like when I was sure my niece...
  3. What celiac antibodies tests were given? The full panel or just the screening? Knowing that information could be very telling. An out-of-range IgA deficiency result does not always impact the Celiac antibodies test. Plus, the small intestine is vast. So easy to miss patchy damaged areas during an endoscopy. Do you still have Rosacea? (SIBO...
  4. From what I understand, you can still develop gallstones even without a gallbladder. Also, you can have bile duct issues as well. I never had gallstones. My gallbladder was non-functioning (0% on the HIDA scan). It is a family curse: 6 out of 7 of my Dad's siblings had their gallbladders removed and no one had gallstones. We are thankful that...
  5. My apologies to you! I do not think I was communicating well at all. It is fine to eat gluten-free foods that are processed as long as you can tolerate them. (I have a freezer full of gluten-free cupcakes and cookies in my freezer right now!). I did not mean to imply that gluten free foods like pasta and bread can damage your small intestine the...
  6. Gemini is right that we all need to adapt our gluten-free diets around our lifestyles and health issues. Please do not think that I am against legumes and grains. I feed them to my family. I just wanted you to know that beans and grains are not the only sources of fiber. We are all different. You just have to figure out what works for you.
  7. Snacks? I keep a zippered make-up case in my purse with a nut bar (still can not do almonds), squeeze applesauce, and peanut butter packets and now a shelf stable yogurt. Most of the time I take a little cooler and keep it in the car. If super hot, it is a cooler within a cooler (1/2 gallon milk jugs freeze well and create old fashioned ice blocks). I...
  8. I am not a dietician, but I can say that I am healthy for celiac (my GI measured all my nutritional levels and I am not deficient in anything and I take NO supplements!). No sugar (exception holidays) and plenty of FAT! Good fats like butter, avocado, olive oil, etc. Those fats fill you up. You need to understand that about 2/3 of celiacs do not...
  9. I am so sorry that your daughter was diagnosed with celiac disease so shortly after your diagnosis. But it is good that it was caught early enough in her life. She can reverse things like bone damage, that I can not (past menopause). You both will not be alone. My kid needs to be retested. She has some odd symptoms, but no irritability which is a...
  10. Normal, I would say. Given that you have modified your diet and have intestinal damage as GFMe pointed out. But where are the fruit and veggies? Good fats? Hoping you left that out of your description because you just focused on the "main course" during this post. ? And let's not forget that you are just diagnosed, still trying to watch everything...
  11. Welcome to the forum! I am not a doctor, but I would not freak out about your high TTG results. From my research, antibodies do not always correlate with intestinal damage. Experts used to think that high antibodies would indicate high levels of damage, but it is not true. celiac disease has been termed a chameleon disease -- always changing (Dr...
  12. Welcome. Mass General? Anyone in their celiac center should be able to help you. They are one of the leading centers for celiac in the world! But...I must tell you that any celiac testing rquires you to be consuming gluten daily for about three months or just 2 to 4 weeks if you have having an endoscopy.
  13. A thyroid check is a good idea! If it is not that, you should probably check you totally calorie intake. It takes a lot to work out and burn off excess calories. But....what is your current weight/BMI/body fat percentage? Maybe, you are used to the "old you" that was malnourished. Maybe you are not really overweight. Just something to think about...
  14. What? You had positive a positive celiac blood test, positive endoscopy (your GI said that visually it looks like celiac disease), but your biopsies were negative. The small intestine when stretched out is vast. So easy to miss damaged areas. Your GI knows this, but from my research GI's do not want to diagnose unless they see Damage in the biopsies....
  15. Like Karen said, read the label (you have to learn how to do this anyway) even if it means googling every single word). Soon, you will know all the words related to gluten (keep a list with you on your phone or wallet.) In the beginning it is best to avoid most processed foods as a damaged tummy often has developed various and often temporary intolerances...
  16. I agree with Ravenwoodglass. See a GI for further testing....and this is important, stay on gluten until all testing is complete. Like you, I tested positive to the DGP IgA only. My TTG tests were both negative (I am not IgA deficient, so all the IgA tests for celiac should work). Even in follow-up testing my TTG is negative. Now my GI saves money...
  17. This product is NOT suitable for celiacs! This is a paid advertisement! Although it may be gluten free, it can not protect a celiac from unwanted gluten exposures. Not one of the astricks on the article is linked to a reference. The actual product states that none of the claims have been evaluated by the FDA (nor needs to because it is a "supplement....
  18. These are the celiac tests: Open Original Shared Link ?
  19. It CAN be related to traces of gluten. It CAN be other ingredients. It is why we tend to stress Whole Foods when you are first starting out until you see signs of healing (or your antibodies are on a downward trend).
  20. This might help and it is easier to understand than the actual FDA ruling: https://www.verywell.com/fda-rules-for-gluten-free-labeling-562768 The bottom line is that if the label says it is gluten free, it should have less than 20 parts per million. But some people react to ANY gluten and 20 parts may be too much. This is something you have to...
  21. It could be the veggies or it could be the seasoning you added. It could be an off day. You could have food poisoning. Hard to say. Best to eat whole foods until you are healed or at least for a few weeks or months. Hard in the winter, but consider root veggies, broccoli, cauliflower, sweet potatoes, etc. The zucchini can be cross contaminated...
  22. Have other issues like Crohn's or SIBO (to name a few) been ruled out? Have you tried a really restrictive gluten-free diet? See this study as to why many people are not healing despite their thinking they are truly gluten free: Open Original Shared Link (In case you do not want to read it, the diet is mostly non-processed foods and no eating...
  23. Google vitamins that are certified gluten free for your piece of mind. Country Life is one certified brand and they are available on Amazon. But....other than taking iron for my anemia for a few months, I take no vitamins. I get all my nutrition from food. It seems to be working as all lab tests my GI runs concurs. I know taking vitamins are a personal...
  24. I bookmarked this! I love it and will use it to list symptoms to forum newcomers. Funny, because Montana is home to Red Wheat. I used to buy a Montana brand of wheat porridge (cream of wheat) back in the day. Open Original Shared Link I counted about 30! (I lumped the first few skin issues together). But here is the deal, only three permanently...
  25. Yes. If possible, ask for the complete panel and not just the screening TTG. Why? You could be an odd duck like me who tests negative to the TTG.
