I think we should all ADD five years to our age ... that way people's reactions will be, "WOW! You look so much younger!" rather than subtracting 5 years and having them say, "WOW! I thought you were older than that!"

I've decided I can't be older than my partner so if I'm feeling a little decrepit, I just ditch the current old fogie and find a younger model.

However, I am not fully irate . . . . . . .

Susie's Moderate Ire = good name for a band where the guy guitarist & drummer wear eyeshadow.

Susie, I write left-handed, everything else is generally right-handed ...

And neither mentions the tres importante datapoint for guys - throw righty?

EVERYone's played softball at some point, right? Bats left, throws right?

I've heard of "second banana", but "second rooster"? Have I been away that long? <_<:P

GAH!!. . . . . after hitting I realized "additional" would've been more accurate.

<curse that 'writing in verbal voice'!>

But "embarrassingly dark" will go fantabulously with the orange skin that you so desire.

And it keeps the premature halloweenification (halloweeniness?) from flatlining!!

(one local groc store already cobwebbed up the registers last wkend! Boooooooooooooo)

. .. . I think he comes in my closet and in my drawers . . .

OMG yipes! . . . now that Richard presented an alternate reading . .. . . . .uhhhhhhhh yeeaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh you might want to set up a teddybearcam and contact a network tv 'news magazine' show. They love this stuff.

"over 40" is a state of mind. changes depending on the day

Being as close to 50 as 40 is nothing short of shocking.

I figure at worst I'm allowed to pick up where I left off pre-celiac. So, consider me 36 now, thank you. :)

And you're living proof of that!

Susie's planting wild strawberries today!! Yum!

And, of course, LMAO!! @ the "No Bell Piece Prize but they also awarded him the Pulletsurprise as well" segment of today's show.

Richard, best of luck trying to catch up on months' worth, I can't believe the time it just took me after missing a few HOURS!

Didn't someone ask if we were wearing our bells? "Pbbbbt!" I say! "Not any MORE!"

Darn210 Enthusiast

Planting wild strawberries . . . isn't that an oxymoron?

:lol::lol:

DingoGirl Enthusiast

confused by tom's last post.....Pulletsurprise etc.

bats right, throws right, tennis racket - right, and would definitely slug someone, if required, with right. ;)

the wild strawberries - ornamental only, methinks.

Dingy, signing out. Drank two Redbridges whilst gardening, am now sleepy and hungry, must forage.

You could be like my grandmother ... she's been 39 since before I was born. :)

I have a friend whose husband sent her "Happy 40th" and "Over the Hill" balloons at work on her 39th birthday. So no one would believe her when she tried to tell them she was only 39. And to clarify, since we ARE talking about a guy, he did actually know it was her 39th birthday.

I'm 43 . . . I don't have a problem telling people, it's just sometimes I have to stop and do the math to figure out how old I am because I can't remember.:lol:

Right, bat and throw.

The other day I was at the gym lifting weights. A new, fancy club opened in our town, so the community center wasn't very crowded, just this guy and I were in there, so we started chatting about it being so deserted.

Anyway, I mentioned how odd it was that there was not a bench for bench pressing, and he said that at his age he got credit just for being there ... ends up, he is 4 years younger than I!! I guess I got extra credit for being older and SICK and being there! :P

Oh u did NOT miss the 'coq au ding' story miss dingy!! in-con-THEEV-able!

(meant to quote but it somehow didn't make it through my manual stacking-quote method)

You make it sound hypothetical !!

Surely at LEAST a good slap or 2 is in your past!! lmao

Dingy, signing out. Drank two Redbridges whilst gardening, . . .

Mmmmmmmmmmm I'm actually still thrilled at the very thought of a good beer being available for the "during"s (aka whilsts :) ) and "after"s.

. . . So no one would believe her when she tried to tell them she was only 39.

Man, if there is a true Grand Poobah anywhere, it is Richard. Get him onto that American Poobah hat site, for this man needs a crown! :D

Daughter of the Light...a new subject of Richard the Strong....or have I simply missed your interesting posts in this thread? Can't imagine that would be possible!

Hey Tom, you're right. That works great.

Jin, thank you for welcoming me to Rachelville. However, I am here only briefly. My post was merely an overflow from the Silly's thread. I needed to post a ". . . . hmmmmm interesting" after one of Tom's post. . . .

I was hoping to slip in and out without being noticed . . . .

But Jin's keen eye (aye!) is too attentive for that!

Time to get back to work. We have guests coming in 2 1/2 hours and I've got probably 2 hours of food prep and 3 hours of cleaning . . . hmmm, doing the math . . . I don't think that's gonna work.

Once again . . . that sounds like I'm a stalker. I did notice that whenever I came to read this thread, you seemed to be here at the same time. I didn't notice on the other threads . . . but I read up in a lot of them to procrastinate and avoid doing the mundane housework and errands - like right now when I have guests coming in . . . . OH!!! ROFL!!

P.P.P.P.S. Did I hear we have a reader not neighborly enough to say hello? Awww, the door's always open!

I read this and I thought, Oh sh@#!, I've been caught evesdropping (all one word?). Then somebody responded (Donna, I think) and I laughed at myself and thought nobody noticed me lurking in the shadows  . . . I was off the hook. :D

Adam has all these old 45's so he bought a record player ... one day I asked the kids what they were doing because they had been playing quietly in the basement for so long ... they said they were playing with those black disc things, what are they called?! :o

That's how old you are, Tom, kids don't even know what a "record" or an "album" is anymore!!!

Years  ago a friend and I drove north into Canada hoping to find a ski resort open in late spring,We were in my VW and found a small ski area near a small town and started up this gravelled road up a mountain. We  got about halfway up and got stuck in the mud. We tried everything we could think of but an hour later we were still stuck. Finally a pickup came down the road, laughed at our situation, then pulled the VW free of the mud. We followed him back to the ski area where where he started up the rope ski lift and we had an enjoyable hour of skiing and gave us a shot of aquavit  before we left.It was a great rescue.  In some ways this reminds me of your situation. You are waiting for a rescue and you have chosen medical practitioners to do it now or as soon as possible. As you have found out the med. experts have not learned how to help you. You face years of continuing to feel horrible, frustrated searching for your rescuer to save you. You can break away from from this pattern of thinking and you have begun breaking  away by using some herbs and supplements from doTerra. Now you can start trying some of the suggestions thatother Celiacs have written to your original posts.  You live with other people who eat gluten foods. Cross contamination is very possible. Are you sure that their food is completely separate from their food. It  is not only the gluten grains you need to avoid (wheat, barley, rye) but possibly oats, cows milk also. Whenever you fall back into that angry and frustrated way of thinking get up and walk around for a whild. You will learn ways to break that way of thinking about your problems.  Best wishes for your future. May you enjpy a better life.

Thanks for responding. I researched further and Lindt Lindor chocolate balls do contain barely malt powder which contains gluten. I was surprised at all of the conflicting information I found when I checked online.
    • trents
@BlessedinBoston, it is possible that in Canada the product in question is formulated differently than in the USA or at least processed in in a facility that precludes cross contamination. I assume from your user name that you are in the USA. And it is also possible that the product meets the FDA requirement of not more than 20ppm of gluten but you are a super sensitive celiac for whom that standard is insufficient.
    • BlessedinBoston
No,Lindt is not gluten free no matter what they say on their website. I found out the hard way when I was newly diagnosed in 2000. At that time the Lindt truffles were just becoming popular and were only sold in small specialty shops at the mall. You couldn't buy them in any stores like today and I was obsessed with them 😁. Took me a while to get around to checking them and was heartbroken when I saw they were absolutely not gluten free 😔. Felt the same when I realized Twizzlers weren't either. Took me a while to get my diet on order after being diagnosed. I was diagnosed with small bowel non Hodgkins lymphoma at the same time. So it was a very stressful time to say the least. Hope this helps 😁.

@Jmartes71, I understand your frustration and anger.  I've been in a similar situation where no doctor took me seriously, accused me of making things up, and eventually sent me home to suffer alone.   My doctors did not recognize nutritional deficiencies.  Doctors are trained in medical learning institutions that are funded by pharmaceutical companies.  They are taught which medications cover up which symptoms.  Doctors are required to take twenty  hours of nutritional education in seven years of medical training.  (They can earn nine hours in Nutrition by taking a three day weekend seminar.)  They are taught nutritional deficiencies are passe' and don't happen in our well fed Western society any more.  In Celiac Disease, the autoimmune response and inflammation affects the absorption of ALL the essential vitamins and minerals.  Correcting nutritional deficiencies caused by malabsorption is essential!  I begged my doctor to check my Vitamin D level, which he did only after making sure my insurance would cover it.  When my Vitamin D came back extremely low, my doctor was very surprised, but refused to test for further nutritional deficiencies because he "couldn't make money prescribing vitamins.". I believe it was beyond his knowledge, so he blamed me for making stuff up, and stormed out of the exam room.  I had studied Nutrition before earning a degree in Microbiology.  I switched because I was curious what vitamins from our food were doing in our bodies.  Vitamins are substances that our bodies cannot manufacture, so we must ingest them every day.  Without them, our bodies cannot manufacture life sustaining enzymes and we sicken and die.   At home alone, I could feel myself dying.  It's an unnerving feeling, to say the least, and, so, with nothing left to lose, I relied in my education in nutrition.  My symptoms of Thiamine deficiency were the worst, so I began taking high dose Thiamine.  I had health improvement within an hour.  It was magical.  I continued taking high dose thiamine with a B Complex, magnesium. and other essential nutrients.  The health improvements continued for months.  High doses of thiamine are required to correct a thiamine deficiency because thiamine affects every cell and mitochondria in our bodies.    A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function.  The cerebellum of the brain is most affected.  The cerebellum controls things we don't have to consciously have to think about, like digestion, balance, breathing, blood pressure, heart rate, hormone regulation, and many more.  Thiamine is absorbed from the digestive tract and sent to the most important organs like the brain and the heart.  This leaves the digestive tract depleted of Thiamine and symptoms of Gastrointestinal Beriberi, a thiamine deficiency localized in the digestive system, begin to appear.  Symptoms of Gastrointestinal Beriberi include anxiety, depression, chronic fatigue, headaches, Gerd, acid reflux, gas, slow stomach emptying, gastroparesis, bloating, diarrhea and/or constipation, incontinence, abdominal pain, IBS,  SIBO, POTS, high blood pressure, heart rate changes like tachycardia, difficulty swallowing, Barrett's Esophagus, peripheral neuropathy, and more. Doctors are only taught about thiamine deficiency in alcoholism and look for the classic triad of symptoms (changes in gait, mental function, and nystagmus) but fail to realize that gastrointestinal symptoms can precede these symptoms by months.  All three classic triad of symptoms only appear in fifteen percent of patients, with most patients being diagnosed with thiamine deficiency post mortem.  I had all three but swore I didn't drink, so I was dismissed as "crazy" and sent home to die basically.   Yes, I understand how frustrating no answers from doctors can be.  I took OTC Thiamine Hydrochloride, and later thiamine in the forms TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) and Benfotiamine to correct my thiamine deficiency.  I also took magnesium, needed by thiamine to make those life sustaining enzymes.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins, so the other B vitamins must be supplemented as well.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.   A doctor can administer high dose thiamine by IV along with the other B vitamins.  Again, Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine should be given if only to rule Gastrointestinal Beriberi out as a cause of your symptoms.  If no improvement, no harm is done. Share the following link with your doctors.  Section Three is especially informative.  They need to be expand their knowledge about Thiamine and nutrition in Celiac Disease.  Ask for an Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity test for thiamine deficiency.  This test is more reliable than a blood test. Thiamine, gastrointestinal beriberi and acetylcholine signaling.  https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12014454/ Best wishes!
