Hilarious! All the Canadians I know are extremely polite. :D

Last spring break, when we were in Vancouver & Whistler every one was so nice & polite. A couple of people told me that they were asked by the local goverment to be very nice to tourists so Canada can have our money in this bad economy. :P

After a week of faxing information request/permission forms back and forth between three different doctors offices and one lab . . . we have an appointment with Cincinnati Children's Hospital . . . unfortunately, it' not until May but we'll wait.

Yay! Progress! Perhaps a cancellation will come up. . . . . but at least you're in!

My boys are 14 & 17. Older one would have liked a tarantula or snake, younger - a large lizard. We decided we couldn't take care of them to keep them happy. Have had rescued rodents: a rat & several guinea pigs. Never a giant squid or cute kitten. Lizard might eat kitten?

I wonder what it'll be like to have kids that age. I think animals are great for kids, but some scary hairy legged ones just scare some folks, including his mom/dad. On a better note, he did find furry animals to love last year. Horses. Bad news is we can't keep one here. He's considering getting cuttle fish. We'll see.

:unsure::blink:

threaten to feed her to whatever dangerous creature her brother ends up with.

I mean...with which her brother ends up

no...up with which, her brother ends

LOL!

Well, we had chatted about that in my dementia from gluten agony. I'm a terrible parent when I'm glutened! To make it short, he joked about a school of Dosidicus gigas, giant humboldt squid getting revenge. But shortly after, he wanted me to know he was just "making fun" to make me feel better, and didn't want his sister on any giant squid adventure, where she might fall off the boat and be eaten.

One of his favorite days was my worst, full of sickness and intense vomitting (folks here can relate? If not I apologize). I took him with me where he might see and experience giant squid for himself, that he's talked about since age 2.

He never got seasick, but made sure to let me know, "everybody's throwing up ALOT, just like you dad!" The swells were pretty big that night. It was one of his best expeditions, not mine at all, but the specimens were incredible! Each suction cup had a ring of "exacto' razor blades. I cut myself pretty good after this photo barely feeling the tentacles.

Sorry, Psills, I do know this is Psillyville and all, but t'is not a psilly night for this Psilly. Miss Mary passed on to a better life today :( T'is better she did so though, because the alternative of institutionalization would not have been at all a happy one for her. She had been hospitalized for ten days for "assessment" and the recommendations were way beyond what we had anticipated. Such a feisty, proud, independent lady could never have tolerated such an indignity. So whilst it is sad, she has been spared much suffering

Darn210 Enthusiast

Oh Neroli . . . I'm so sorry . . . but I do think you are right. From your description of her, she would not have been happy in some sort of a facility (and you would not have been happy to see her there.) Treasure her memories and tell her stories.

Hugs Neroli :(

I'm glad she lived her life as she wanted, and you allowed her to end it with the grace and dignity she deserved.

WHAT IS THIS???? I need more details . . . where did this adventure take place? My 10 year old was watching over my shoulders and his mouth hung open in awe. This is the sort of thing that would go over big time in my family . . . vomitous or not.

Sounds pretty important. Hope all works out well for you and your family! :)

Yeah, fortunately for you, you missed a lot of details of my daughter's (Skeeter) health . . . the summary of which is we're fed up with the doctor and going someplace better!!!

'Mornin', Psills!

Shroomie, I am SO sorry about Miss Mary. It was really enjoyable to read all of the wonderful, funny and poignant things you said about her here. She was a Psilly by Proxy if there was ever anyone as such.. . .. .. ..... . ..be thinking of you.

Hey! Jack (my 13 year-old son who has been rattling off mind-numbing facts and obscure trivia since kindergarten) talks about the cuttlefish with some fondness and fascination, as well. He would advise you, Da, with your personality-going-south gluten episodes, to absolutely pick up a tankful of these li'l guys. The ink or liquid they excrete, sepia, is well-known in alternative medicine to help with depression and anger issues. I occasionally have a few drops of it when my period starts and it's a bad one - - like, I hate the entire world. I believe that it does, indeed, take the edge off.. .. . .

You would need to cultivate this ink yourself, however. Hmm...... . .what do these creature look like? Scary spikes and suction cups? Can they cut you up if you try to milk them?:lol:

I've heard that is an excellant hospital. My cousins have taken kids there with rare conditions & gotten help.

Teenage boys are still boys just larger & they like girls. Train them now to be helpful & its easier to get them to do stuff later. 10 year old should do his own laundry for example.

Maybe he would like a rat. Not nearly as awful as some think. Very interactive. Can train them (or they train you). Guinea pigs are friendly & cuddly. Rabbits are fun too. GPs & Buns are not hypoallergenic if thats an issue.

Looks like a fun trip. My boys would like that.

Yes, and hopefully by teenagehood they have outgrown the suction cup/ spike/tentacle fascination... . .. ..otherwise, they may start bringin' home some unfortunate-looking girls.. .. . . . ....:lol:

14 yr old still likes snakes & reptiles but gets it out of system by working at a summer day camp. Mine are also interested in Robotics & cars. Not good hobbies to meet girls. (sigh of relief)

I didn't ask a doctor about this actually. I did ask several doctors a long time ago and they told me gluten has nothing to do with hashimoto's. One of them told me to do a gluten challenge to test for celiac, but at the time I was in graduate school so couldn't afford to be even more ill than I was. If you have the symptoms, I really don't advise you to do a gluten challenge. It messed me up mentally and physically for months. At the same time, I benefitted from doing the challenge in the sense that it convinced me that all my symptoms were truly from gluten - even stuff like insomnia! So now I am terrified to eat gluten, whereas before I would have a little once in a while and not notice anything dramatic.
    • Winnie-Ther-Pooh
I am in a similar situation where I can't feasibly do a gluten challenge but have all the symptoms and I have 2 celiac genes. I'm curious if your doctor advised you to eat as if you had a diagnosis or if they were more dismissive about it.
    • Zuma888
Negative, although I had most of the symptoms of celiac disease. I now eat as if I had a diagnosis.

While it's always important to approach internal use of essential oils with caution and ideally under the guidance of a qualified professional, your experience highlights the potential of complementary approaches when traditional medicine falls short. Many in the community are also interested in the intersection of natural wellness and gluten-free living, particularly for managing systemic inflammation and its various symptoms, so sharing your story is valuable. Your observation that it may also be helping with bloating is fascinating, as that could point to an overall reduction in inflammation. Thank you for sharing what is working for you!
