 Udi's

woot!!!!!!!!!!

I'm writing a letter to the company as soon as I post this.

Finally managed to get myself to Whole Foods yesterday. Can you tell I'm happy? lol.. I had two pieces for breakfast this morning and they tasted like real bread!! (unlike the gaggy stuff I bought at Trader Joe's.)

woot!

i know!!! i am sooo glad this was recommended to me in another post! i just bought some horrific gluten free frozen bagels from glutino and i couldn't get past the smell. i'm sure some are happy with that brand but its not for me. udi though ... whooo hooo! sandwiches are back! :)

Ugh those Glutino bagels are like hockey pucks. I ate ONE. The rest went into the compost pile...

But I have about six loaves of Udi's bread in my freezer - SO GOOD. I get to have cream cheese and olive sandwiches again!

TSC1 Newbie

I have bought other Glutino products and have been less than satisfied. Their breadcrumbs are too heavy and pasty. The new bread I did buy at Whole Foods was especially good(Udi's) and except for the size of the slices, very much like real bread. I think they are beginning to stock it in larger amounts. Therefore, to keep it stocked and to reward Whole Foods in this effort, please go there a buy a loaf. I am not affiliated nor do I work or have any investment in either company. I just believe that we need to assist companies that have made a genuine effort to supply us with alternatives that are healthy and taste good too.

What type/flavour of Udi's does everyone get? Is it just one type? I currently eat Glutino Harvest Cornbread which is pretty darn good but it has to be toasted. I would LOVE to eat bread untoasted. I would rather never eat bread again than try to stomach frozen rice bread. YUCK.

And I totally agree about Glutino products. Most of them are gross..........

My Whole Foods only had white and whole "wheat" (not sure what they called that one since obviously it's not wheat, but you know what I mean) :) -- anyway, I bought the white because I've seen everyone here saying that's very good. Maybe someone else can speak to the other one. I also bought some English muffins, but I'm not sure now if they were Udi's (I'm at work at the moment and can't check.) Haven't tried them yet.

And that "gaggy bread from Trader Joe's" that I mentioned in my original post -- that was rice bread like what you're talking about. I agree, I'd prefer to give up bread entirely rather than eat that. In fact, I wrote to Trader Joe's and sent them the label from the bread and they sent me a refund. The bread may be awful but their customer service is excellent. ;)

Udi's bread is the most amazing stuff in the world!!!

luvs2eat Collaborator

I was completely surprised to find Udi's bread (frozen) in a new natural market that opened here (in the boonies of Arkansas). It is the best thing since sliced bread!!

I got the white bread and was unhappy to find that a "bubble" had baked in it so half the loaf had a big hole in each slice. The "whole grain" one was even better!!

K8ling Enthusiast

Oh my goodness, I am going to Macon tomorrow (about a 25 minute drive) to buy a case of Udi's. I need some grilled cheese and CAN'T with the Kinnikinick (did I spell that right??). I was so depressed. So Udi's? Here I come!!!

Ahorsesoul Enthusiast

I buy the white and the whole grain from Udi's. Both are excellent. I've had their muffins, they are good but I am not a fan of muffins. Try them if you like muffins. Have their bagels in the freezer but have not had them yet. Have tried the pizza crust, it's good but I really like Against the Grains better.

Against the Grain (if you can tolerate dairy) makes the best baguettes and pizza crust. I use the baguettes for french bread and subs. During the summer I even make my pizza on the grill. Their rolls are good too.

I really wish the sold Udi's here in Canada! Though, as for Glutino products, there english muffins are pretty good. I haven't found a bread I like yet here in Canada (though I agree Glutino Harvest Cornbread is the best we've got) so I use these english muffins instead of bread for toast.

I need to find some Udi's after reading the great reviews here. Quick pass through my Whole Foods and didn't see any. I like the Kinnikinnik products (bread, bagels, hot dog rolls) but the trick is to wrap them in a paper towel and microwave them a minute or 2 on 50% power to make them soft. Works like a miracle. I also make Pam's gluten-free mix in my breadmaker and it's awesome.

K8ling Enthusiast

mmmm I want a cheeseburger now. Guess I am picking up some Kinnikinnik rolls tomorrow too lol

i-geek Rookie

We split our Kinnikinnick hot dog buns and tossed them right on the grill to thaw. Worked like a charm. They were good, too.

I find that I don't eat bread much anymore but when we want it, Udi's is perfect. I think I always buy the whole-grain one from Whole Foods. It does make a great grilled cheese. :D

Udi's RULES!!!

Try the pizza at 475 for 6 minutes. It is so crispy and yet a little chewy.

Topping:

EVOO instead of sauce, all over the crust top

sliced tomato, I use the whole tomato

basil or oregano, I switch-up

parmesan cheese, I have grated it fresh or sprinkled from the can

This is one of the best pizza's I have ever had! (and I am from Chicago)

For whoever said they did a quick pass through Whole Foods and didn't see Udi's... (I forgot to check the name on the post before I clicked "reply") -- it's in the frozen food section, not on the shelves. Try that, and if they don't have it at all you should ask them to get some, especially since it sounds like most other Whole Foods carry it.

Depends on the Whole Foods. In the one by me, it's thawed and sold on the regular bread rack. I doubt I would have ever noticed it if I hadn't been looking for something for the husband and if I didn't recognize the brand name. I don't remember seeing it in the freezer cases.

Darn210 Enthusiast

At our whole foods, the bread is thawed and on a rack in the bakery section. The pizza crust is in the freezer section. Doesn't hurt to ask if you don't see it. Well, worth trying.

Also, for the Glutino bagels . . . I agree they have a funny smell . . . but don't throw them out. Slice small pieces (x-sections), brush with a little olive oil, sprinkle with sea salt/onion powder/garlic powder, toast in the oven till crispy and enjoy some bagel chips.

Monklady123 Collaborator

Hmmm.... I'll have to look in the regular bread section next time, maybe they'll have other Udi's stuff.

And, my English muffins are Food of Life. They were next to the Udi's bread so I thought I'd try them. Anyone ever had these? The package is very heavy so I'm expecting something awful like that TJ rice bread. But we'll see... if they're too awful I'll try something like what was just suggested for the Glutino's bagels. Wonder if I could make bread crumbs...

polarbearscooby Explorer

My food place had just received it and she recommended it to me and gave me a sample. But they didn't have it out on the shelves yet so I never would have noticed it...

That was me. I just checked Udi's website, punched in my zip code and there's none within 100 miles :-( Which is odd because I live near a major city.

Next time I'm at While Foods I'll make an inquiry.

You know, I checked my zip code on there yesterday and it didn't mention the place that I've been buying it. It's probably hard to keep the website up to date.

re: Where to buy...

The closest Whole Foods to me is in Chicago, 70 miles away. I bought mine at Woodman's, but had to request it & now they stock it permanently. They are very open to ordering food at Woodman's if you live near one (Wisconsin & Northern IL only, I think?)

Just having my morning toast now. Butter, raspberry jam... nice cup of coffee. omg.....

Sorry, I don't mean to be repeating old news. But I am SO happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and I found myself giggling with happiness as I read how your body reached such spring! And I hope that your current journey is also successful!! Definitely starting the food diary! So many amazing advices. And it’s very scary. It really hits all our soft spots as well as our confidence system. Most doctors I went thought I was underage despite being in my late 20s. Right now I look like am I twelve, but is also this body that’s taking so much, so I might as well love it too! Going to make the necessary changes and stay in this path. Thank you again! 🫶

Thank you so much for the information and kind message! Reading this transformed how I’ve been viewing my efforts and progress. Guess there’s still a lot to celebrate and also heal 😌  Yes, I’ve been taking it! Just recently started taking a multivitamin supplement and separated vitamin D! I also took chewable Iron polymaltose for ferritin deficiency 2 months ago but was unable to absorb any of it.  Thank you again! Hearing such gentle words from the community makes my body and heart more patient and excited for the future.
