I agree with @trents that if you are going to try the gluten-free diet in this case it should probably be all or nothing--100% gluten-free would be the only way to see if his symptoms improve. It's your call, and your doctor's call, of course, but to do another gluten challenge properly could add a long time onto his recovery time. Doing a thyroid test makes...

Safe Gluten-Free Food List (Safe Ingredients)
Scott Adams commented on Scott Adams's article in Safe & Unsafe Foods & Ingredients
Our list is a USA food list, and you have linked to ingredients from a medications list. Medications may use different sources for their ingredients, or may be made in other countries, but if the foods are made in the USA those ingredients are gluten-free.- 66 comments

Be sure not to go gluten-free until all testing for celiac disease is completed, or you may end up with false negative results. Since your grandfather has it the likelihood that you also have it would be higher because ~44% of first degree relatives also have it. Does the rash ever have tiny clear heads on it? Maybe they were scratched off? If it...

to many if and buts
Scott Adams replied to whosoutthere's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to the forum! The one thing you haven't really made clear with the directions they gave to you is what they told you about the necessity of you going on a 100% gluten-free diet for life...did they mention this? This is the only proper medical treatment for celiac disease, and not steroids or antibiotics. The only reason I can think of that... -
Testing for/diagnosing celiac
Scott Adams replied to pokey449's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think the article says that the use of PPIs or NSAIDs can cause your blood antibody levels to be lower, even if you have celiac disease. So using them will mask CD and make diagnosis more difficult. -
Testing for/diagnosing celiac
Scott Adams replied to pokey449's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
To make matters even more confusing, there is a new study that we'll summarize shortly that says that PPI use can cause blood tests for celiac disease to be inaccurate: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28462884/ -
Certain chest pains, and even heart issues, have been connected to untreated celiac disease, but it is always a good idea to discuss these symptoms with your doctor, as they of course could also be something more serious. Being really cold could be a side effect of the many nutrient deficiencies caused by celiac disease, but also worth mentioning to...

Agreed @trents! What I think this really means is that many are slipping through the cracks, and told they can continue eating gluten, when in fact they have celiac disease. I personally think the entire diagnostic criteria need to be revamped and standardized to make blood tests be the first and most important part of a diagnosis with minimal use of biopsy...

I still miss many things as well, including Bob's, but I've learned ways to replace those items with healthy, gluten-free alternatives. Try Little Northern Bakehouse hamburger buns and make your own Bob's style hamburger! Their buns may not meet the whole foods definition, but you need to have a reward once in a while. I never ate hamburgers that often even...

Kirkland Brand Gluten Free
Scott Adams replied to fortworthmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I eat Costco vegetables and fruits and don't believe there would be any issue with them. We always wash them before consuming them, which would also offer protection if there were any contamination. -
There are tests in development that show promise, but none yet available...for example: I believe that many who have high levels of gluten antibodies, but don't cross the specific threshold to call it celiac disease, or those who have negative blood tests but mild villi blunting and the doctors tell them they are negative for CD, may be in the gluten...

Since there are now so many gluten-free cosmetic choices available, I recommend that all celiacs should switch over to them, regardless of what some "experts" say. This recommendation won't hurt you, and MANY on this forum have reported issues with gluten in their cosmetic products, especially those with DH, so it may help you. You might find this topic...

So one issue with how celiac disease is diagnosed is that the cut off levels in blood tests that define positive vs. negative results may miss cases of celiac disease. Many in this forum try gluten-free diets for some time before their tests are completed, thus might test negative when they would have tested positive had they eaten gluten daily before the...

Hi @Esmanee, welcome to the forum! Many people with celiac disease are asymptomatic, but this unfortunately does not mean that they won't face the same long-term health risks as those who have severe symptoms. This study might explain why some have symptoms and some don't, but it also shows that the negative intestinal changes are still seen in both...

Interesting, I will try altering how I cook chicken eggs to see if it helps. Duck eggs are actually very good, but are expensive. Duck eggs are also available at my local Whole Foods.
