I have been dealing with this same issue for our son who has Down’s Syndrome and Celiac Disease. Insurance, (Medicaid) outright will not cover the Gluten Free which is a capsule under the brand name Tirosint and another manufactured by Lanette and a third by Yaral.    Just yesterday, Medicare (not Medicaid) finally approved it but this was after 6 months of paying out of pocket to the tune of $148.00 a month! It’s been a nightmare. If his dose changes, we have to repeat the process!  His dose changed three times in a month! Thyroid management is a moving target as it is with Celiac Disease greatly compounding the issue. Very frustrating.

Thanks Scott.  That's why I was hoping for a recommendation of a place known to be safe.  Jenny

Thank you so much.  It helps just knowing there is a connection and it's not my imagination.    I am seeking help from a nutritionist and will talk to my PC about inflammation marker testing - thank you.  During one flare I went to see an ophthalmologist because my symptoms were so severe.  He didn't draw any connection but just said that my eyes were extremely dry and recommended drops, which I use.  However, when a flare develops, the drops are only marginally effective.   I think I've eliminated one source of contamination.  We had 20 chickens until less than a month ago, when we sold that property.   Although I scrubbed after feeding and taking care of the chickens, the feed is mostly wheat and I'm sure I had to be inhaling wheat 'dust' every day.   I'm feeling like there will be improvement.   Thank you so much for your reply, the help and suggestions.

Thank you so much for your response! Does this mean that each of my parents on their own may not have HLA-DQ8 but combined together gave me HLA-DQ8?

Any chance you are getting traces of gluten in your diet? This article has some detailed information on how to be 100% gluten-free, so it may be helpful (be sure to also read the comments section.):
