Finally! :D:P:):lol:

I found a place that has a gluten-free Menu consisting of a whole bunch of NONGLUTEN food. The food is amazing. When it came to giving up my usual chinese food (at least 1X/week), after being diagnosed, I said goodbye to it forever. Never thought I'd be able to eat anything remotely similar to the foods I enjoyed: wonton soup, all noodle dishes, egg roll, breaded chicken dishes, even the fortune cookie!!!!!!

For 6 years Ive been eating (miserably I may add) steamed this and steamed that, NO sauce whatsoever, plain veggies, plain chicken It never varied (how could it, Id be deathly ill if I cheated) until I had gluten-free chinese food at PF Changs.

Thank God for this place and whoever decided to create a gluten-free menu, so us Celiacs can enjoy the same tasting chinese food we once loved. It was truly the best meal Ive had since being gluten-free. I had noodles (rice flour), lighly coated sweet chicken, etc.

I love, love, love the food. I couldnt come up for air!!!!!!! I was almost in tears out of gratitude and appreciation.

I encourage anyone to try it out. They have places in may states. I went to the one in NY.

But, I do have a question, is MSG safe for Celiacs????? Could someone please tell me? The food tasted "too good to be true" so Im assuming it had MSG. I dont think the manager would screw up my order, after my boyfriend telling them 100X PLEASE MAKE SURE ITS gluten-free!!!!!! I wasnt "sick" per say --just the usual bloating, gas, reflux (mild), maybe caused by MSG??? :o

I didn't think we could have MSG, but I looked it up and I am not sure anymore.. I think some is not gluten-free?? Help me out too!

WOO HOO about the PF Changs. Just about 10 min ago I was in the elevator with co-workers and they started talking about how they were going to order chinese food tonight....my mouth was watering. I wanted to be like can we wait to discuss this until I am out of the elevator. I went on here then and saw that post. A true sign from god I am so having chinese food tonight! B)

I get the gas/bloating/etc whenever I eat fried foods (deep fried or in the skillet).

Since I went gluten-free, I rarely eat fried foods, so that is what I attribute the symptoms to...

I also had a great experience at our local PF Chang's. I told the waiter that I couldn't have dairy or soy as well as gluten. So the waiter asked the chef to come to my table and recommend 'safe' dishes. She circled on my take home menu, which entrees and appetizers were gluten-free/df/sf. I learned the hard way that the stars meant HOT. :o On my next visit, I used that take home, chef circled menu and stuck with mild and gluten-free/df/sf dishes. :P We love PF Chang's! :D

MSG, Monosodium glutamate is gluten-free. Its not really good for you. So its generally good to avod.

I just came from there for my birthday and it was delicious!!!! (yes my birthday is 9/11).

I had the ginger chicken with steamed brocoli and their gluten-free sauce.... yay I can have chinese food again!!!

I just went to PF Changs in Weehawkin / Edgewater, NJ. It was great. The host handed me the gluten-free menu without looking at me like I had three heads. The server made sure she brought out the G/L soy sauce. THe sauce on the table is not gluten-free.

I asked the server if any of the beers were gluten-free? Hey, there were alot of Japanese beers so I thought they may have been rice based. She answered "no", again without looking at me with a strange look.

I ordered the gluten-free shrimp in lobster sauce and it was delicious. We ordered the gluten-free lettuce wraps as an appiteizer and the non-Celiacs even said they were great.

The only complaint was not having a gluten-free beer and it did not appear they had a specified gluten-free dessert. Hey, I can dream can't I.

PF Changs Rocks!!!!!!!

I just went to one in Marlton NJ. It was like heaven. The waiter was so proffesional. He started to mix the soy sauce and I asked if it was Gluten free. He came back and said no but went and changed it and showed me the new spoon he was using so there wouldn't be any cross contamination. I also got the Shrimp with Lobster sauce. Incredible. The Manager came over and spoke with us. PF Changs has become my favorite restaurant ever.

I have a question for people that have eaten at PF Changs. I went to the one here in LA, and was handed the gluten-free menu, and lettuce wraps weren't on it. Are you guys getting gluten-free menus? or recommendations from servers?

There were also no gluten-free fortune cookies, they did bring a regular one that I made my boyfriend eat so I could see the fortune.

I'm trying to figure out if the menu varies regionally or if my PF Changs has an older or perhaps newer version.

Other that the dissapointment of no lettuce wraps, the food was nummy. I had the cucumbers and the lemon chicken.

The lettuce wraps are on the gluten-free menu. They say something along the lines of "have them prepared with the gluten free soy sauce etc"

Wow! I hadn't heard of them before reading this. I've rarely eaten Chinese in my days (whether gluten-free or not) and will definitely put this place on my list of things to try since I did an online search and found that there is one not too far from me(and I was thinking the entire time there was no way I would locate one)!

PF Changs is soooo good.

and they have gluten free soy sauce!!!!! whoohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh and if you call ahead they will sell you a side of gluten-free soy sauce that you can take home to cook with. :D

Hey Ken Ritter!! We're making a pilgrimage to the PF Changs in Marlton, NJ, next weekend, as it's the only one remotely near us! (and it's probably more than an hour away!!)

I was there for the first time in Portland, OR, and I can't wait to go again!! I found the servers incredibly attentive to my dietary restrictions and the food was YUMMY!!

LOVE LOVE LOVE PF Changs!!! They have great food, knowledgeable staff and they are reasonably priced. Never had a bad experience at the one near West Chester, Pennsylvania. My non-celiac friends eat off the gluten-free menu to keep our orders "clean" and they love it too.

This is so exciting.....going to the PF Changs at Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa soon, granddaughter has celiac and I am gluten intolerant. She has eaten there and loves it, I haven't had the pleasure yet. Really looking forwar do it after reading this thread. Barbara

I got to eat at PF Changs last night and it was wonderful!!!! Serendipity raised her beautiful head and I am so thankful. Whenever dh and I go to St. Louis I drive since I know my way around pretty well (he's been in KC for the past 13 yrs, even though we went to hs together in Rolla) ANYHOW - he had (until last night) a rather annoying habit of reading all the signs outloud when I was driving. Then I heard him read out PE Changs? I looked quickly and it was a PF Changs high on the hill above the turn I was making!!! I was so excited!!! We hadn't planned where to eat dinner last night, he was wanting buffet, but I convinced him to try it for me. Besides, he eats buffet two times or more during the week w/o me and I'm fine with that. The staff were so kind, and it WASN'T a big deal. Just a different menu selection. Just ask for the gluten-free menu at the hostess's stop, and you're set!!! And I know my dh was happy for me - to be able to eat GOOD food, with gluten-free soy sauce was such a treat for me. (and he enjoyed his nongf entree and it wasn't out of line in price).

I LOVE pf changs BUT can't eat there. Every single time I get sick. Even when I order gluten-free and talk with the waiter, etc. I get sick. And it's not the other ingredients because before I went gluten-free I ate there all the time with no problems.

So, sigh, I no longer eat there. I LOVE their food but it just isn't worth the nausea I get and gluten symptoms when I eat there. And we have 4 PF changs in my area; it is the same whichever one I go to. :(

i love the letttuce wraps, i was amazed at the service and their understanding of the gluten-free diet! amazing

For people in the Phila area, there is also a PF Chang's near Routes 1 and 202. I'm down in Wilmington and that is the closest one to me. Going north on 202, turn right on Route 1 and go about 3/4 mile. PF Changs is in the shopping area on the left.

Let me know how you do there! I live about 30 min. from Marlton. Actually lived in Marlton for a few years. When you go, save time for some shopping--there are great stores right there near Changs. I did eat there once--right after it opened, but that was pre-gluten free. It was really good. Have fun :)

Went there this weekend and it was great!! The lettuce wraps were on the gluten-free menu and when they came out they said gluten free lettuce wraps. My duaghter and I shared gluten-free moo goo gai pan. IT was yummy! You have to ask for gluten-free soy sauce though and the cookies were not gluten-free! But otherwise it was great!

      Hi Charlie, You sound like you have been having a rough time of it. Coeliac disease can cause a multitude of skin, mouth and throat problems. Mouth ulcers and enamel defects are well known but other oral conditions are also more common in people with coeliac disease: burning tongue, inflamed and swollen tongue, difficulty swallowing, redness and crusting...

      Hi Charlie, You sound like you have been having a rough time of it. Coeliac disease can cause a multitude of skin, mouth and throat problems. Mouth ulcers and enamel defects are well known but other oral conditions are also more common in people with coeliac disease: burning tongue, inflamed and swollen tongue, difficulty swallowing, redness and crusting in the mouth corners, and dry mouth to name but some. The link below is for paediatric dentistry but it applies to adults too.  Have you had follow up for you coeliac disease to check that your anti-tTG2 antibodies levels have come down? Are you certain that you not being exposed to significant amounts of gluten? Are you taking a PPI for your Barrett's oesophagus? Signs of changes to the tongue can be caused by nutritional deficiencies, particularly iron, B12 and B9 (folate) deficiency. I would make sure to take a good quality multivitamin every day and make sure to take it with vitamin C containing food - orange juice, broccoli, cabbage etc.  Sebaceous hyperplasia is common in older men and I can't find a link to coeliac disease.   Russ.   Oral Manifestations in Pediatric Patients with Coeliac Disease – A Review Article

      Hi @Charlie1946 You are very welcome.   I agree wholeheartedly with @knitty kitty:  "I wish doctors would check for nutritional deficiencies and gastrointestinal issues before prescribing antidepressants." I had a type of tingling/sometimes pain in my cheek about 2 years after my diagnosis.  I noticed it after standing in cold wind, affecting  me after the event - for example, the evening after standing outside, I would feel either tingling or stabbing pain in my cheek.   I found using a neck roll seemed to help, reducing caffeine, making sure I was well-hydrated, taking B12 and C vitamins and magnesium.  Then when the lockdowns came and I was using a facemask I realised that this pain was almost entirely eliminated by keeping the wind off my face.  I think looking back I was suffering from a type of nerve pain/damage.  At the time read that coeliacs can suffer from nerve damage caused by nutritional deficiencies and inflammation, and there was hope that as bodywide healing took place, following the adoption of a strict gluten free diet and addressing nutritional deficiencies, recovery was possible.   During this time, I used to spend a lot of time outdoors with my then young children, who would be playing in the park, and I'd be sheltering my face with an upturned coat collar, trying to stay our of the cold wind!  It was during this time a number of people with a condition called Trigeminal Neuralgia came up to me and introduced themselves, which looking back was nothing short of miraculous as I live in a pretty sparsely populated rural community and it is quite a rare condition.   I met a number of non-coeliacs who had suffered with this issue  and all bar one found relief in taking medication like amitriptyline which are type of tricyclic anti-depressant.   They were not depressed, here their doctors had prescribed the drugs as pain killers to address nerve pain, hence I mention here.  Nerve pain caused by shingles is often treated with this type of medication in the UK too, so it is definitely worth bearing in mind if standard pain killers like aspirin aren't working.
