Sleeping my life away!
GFinDC replied to Keight's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Keight, Some other things to try are boron and lemon juice. Boron helps bones absorb calcium. Lemon juice with meals helps our GI tract absorb iron. I suggest taking a 1000 IU vitamin D pill daily (Naturemade brand is good) for vitamin D deficiency. Your body will build vitamin D faster using a smaller dose daily than it will taking a larger does... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
GFinDC replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We had a turkey and a ham for Christmas. Plus sweet taters cole slaw, and almond cake with swerve not sugar. Since then made turkey soup from the bones and ham bone soup from the bones. Ham bone soup came out more like rice and veggies since the water was a little short, but that's ok. Ham bone soup with cauliflower, peas corn, and a wild rice mixture... -
HI Alice, There should be some info in the articles this search found. https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1SQJL_enUS873US873&sxsrf=ACYBGNSa-1yH0rLNmkUGX7BJtJAGQjeKDg%3A1577757273996&ei=WaoKXvO4PJW3tQab2YHoDg&q=oral+lichen+planus+celiac+disease&oq=oral+lichen+planus+celiac&gs_l=psy-ab.1.0.0j0i22i30j0i333l2.22486.24177..27491...

Hi Elie, I wonder if you have tried eliminating any other foods from your diet? Nightshades can cause joint pain for some people. Nightshades are potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant. Nightshades contain alkaloid chemicals that can build up in people who's livers' don't process them efficiently. Then they cause problems. If you want to test...

Yep, Squirmy posted a link to a Gluten Free Watchdog article on 3 sourdough breads they tested. None of the 3 tested were safe for people with celiac disease. Hopefully all of them have since stopped marketing their sourdough breads as gluten-free since the testing proved them unsafe. Of the 3 bakeries gluten-free Watchdog tested, I see Purbread hasn't...

Hi Kiwifruta, I am just curious if the 3 day fermentation actually reduces the gluten content of the dough significantly. I'd never try eating it myself since I do have celiac disease. But I can see where a gluten intolerant person with NCGS (non-celiac gluten sensitive) might be able to. The reactions in NCGS are not known to be immune related like...

I don't think sourdough bread is safe for celiacs either. One of the commenters on the reddit thread was saying that if the bread rises, then it has gluten in it. That makes sense. After all the gluten is what causes the bread to rise in concert with the gas from the yeast. If there wasn't any gluten in the sourdough bread it wouldn't rise and would be...

Hi Kieran, Yes, I avoid dairy because it causes me GI symptoms. We can develop reactions to many different foods. You can try going off dairy for a couple weeks and then test it again. Some people can eat sheep or goat dairy but not cow dairy. It takes some experimenting to see how your body reacts.

Hi kiwifruta, This video from America's Test Kitchen might be interesting to you. They show how to remove the starch from gluten dough by washing it away with water. So you are left with a pure gluten residue. You could try this with your sourdough and see how much gluten you end up left with after washing the starch out. That seems like it would...

Hi Georgia. The ttg is just one celiac screening test. There are others like the DGP IgA and DGP IgG and EMA. It's best to get all of them done because then you have a reference point for the tests later. Please don't stop eating gluten until all the testing is done. Usually after a positive blood antibody test the doctor will schedule an endoscopy...

Not Healing
GFinDC replied to CharlesBronson's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Charles, I am sorry you aren't feeling well. Your comment about restless leg syndrome and just starting to eat beef again makes me think of B-12 deficiency. Our nerves need B-12 to function and heal. And many celiacs are low on them at diagnosis. So you may need to supplement them for a bit. Vitamin D and some minerals can also be a problem. ... -
Hi, what celiac tests did you have and what were the results and the ranges? IgA, IgG, EMA, total serum IgA? There are several antibody tests they can do, but often they don't do all of them. Some people don't show up on the blood tests but still have celiac disease. There's also the possibility of an ulcer or some other condition.
-
The gluten challenge done before celiac testing is 12 weeks for the blood antibody testing and 2 weeks for the endoscopy test. The challenge requires eating a certain amount of gluten each day. A single slice of wheat bread is generally considered enough. But they do have a formula that goes by body weight to determine the gluten amount required. Most...

Tracking Down the Food Culprit
GFinDC commented on Ennis-TX's blog entry in Daily Life and Compromising
Glad to hear the ACV is helping Ennis_TX. My sister makes a pitcher of water with lemon juice every morning with some stevia to sweeten it. She then sips it throughout the day. Might maybe help you some? Are you still on PPI's? Those are a bad thing for a person's digestion. They block stomach acid which means you can't digest food properly. I am trying... -
You are on the right track by removing processed foods, even gluten-free processed foods from his diet. You may also need to remove dairy, as many celiacs can't digest it for a few months after going gluten-free. It is much better to feed him only whole foods that are prepared at home. Recovery from celiac damage is often 6 months to 2 years or more for...

Tracking Down the Food Culprit
GFinDC commented on Ennis-TX's blog entry in Daily Life and Compromising
Hi ennis_tx, Have you tried betaine HCL with your meals? Betaine HCL turns into stomach acid when we take it. It can help digest meats and other foods. Another thing to try is some lemon juice or vinegar in foods. Lemon juice and vinegar help us to absorb iron from the foods we eat. -
Hi bonbena, Nutrient deficiencies can cause hair loss, as CL said. Iron anemia is one possible cause. If you eat red meat you should be getting some iron form that. But there are some foods that interfere with iron absorption, like dairy, eggs, spinach to name a few. So avoid those foods for a few hours before or after eating meat, fish, etc. It...

Symptoms Persisting on gluten-free Diet
GFinDC replied to tumbleweed's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, Welcome to the forum! :) It's good that you are having some health improvements on the gluten-free diet. It sounds like you may have been glutened a few times since you started gluten-free four months ago? Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease. The immune system is triggered by just a tiny amount of gluten. Once triggered the immune reaction...- 2 replies

Please read about the effort to pass a bill requiring labeling of gluten in medicines. The article has a link to message your representatives to ask for support. https://www.beyondceliac.org/celiac-news/s-3021-gluten-in-medicine-disclosure-act-of-2019/?fbclid=IwAR0f-wVtE2SlUzD3HGLz75g9JAL4u0fRRWWHCTvC8gjIM-azn9mK3dKZbB4

Hi AwolCIS, Here is an article that talks about adrenal problems. It may have some info that will help. I used to have fainting or near fainting spells years ago. I would kind of black out and fall over sitting in a chair. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/245810.php This article talks about the vagus nerve and what it affects...

Celiac Rash DH - Grown Alchemist Brand
GFinDC replied to Jenna1028's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hi Jenna1028, They test for DH by taking a small skin biopsy from clear skin next to a lesion. If you have DH, you have celiac disease. But, you need to be eating a gluten diet for 12 weeks (gluten challenge) before getting the skin biopsy done or the test won't be valid. You may not want to be tested and that's fine. Doing the gluten challenge can... -

Hi mainegurl, lister last visited the forum in 2007, and they aren't following this thread, so you probably won't get a response. I don't know for sure this is the Delphi forum they mentioned, but here is a link to one. https://forums.delphiforums.com/celiac -
Daily stomach pain and nauseated
GFinDC replied to Bshake's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Some alternative medicine treatments for stomach ulcers are DGL licorice, mastic gum, and caprylic acid. Caprylic acid comes from coconut. I'd try all of these at once for a couple months daily. They may add a little extra boost to the medicines she already takes for ulcers. Her stomach pain could very well be from the ulcers and not from celiac disease... -
Hi ry350, Celiac antibody testing is not valid if you weren't eating gluten for 12 weeks before the blood draw. The endoscopy shouldn't be done until at least 2 weeks of eating gluten daily. So your celiac tests don't mean much at all. Another test that you could do is a vitamin and mineral levels test. That might find something low which could...

The Gluten Contamination Study We've Been Waiting For
GFinDC commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Additional Concerns
It seems to me they found gluten transfer occurred in almost 100 percent of tests. Maybe not at 20 PPM in all cases but at some lower level. So the study does show gluten transfer /contamination is possible and does happen with poor kitchen hygiene.- 70 comments
