  1. There is no direct evidence that AlgaeCal causes elevated coronary artery calcium (CAC) scores or significantly raises cholesterol levels. However, excessive calcium supplementation—especially without adequate vitamin K2 (which helps direct calcium to bones rather than arteries)—could theoretically contribute to vascular calcification over time, particularly in ...
  2. Celiac.com 05/13/2025 - Cassava (also known as yuca or manioc) has become a popular gluten-free alternative, appearing in everything from flour and bread to chips and pasta. For people with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity, cassava...
  3. Navigating a new diagnosis and setting up a 504 plan in Florida can feel overwhelming, but you’re taking such an important step for your daughter! Common accommodations for students with conditions like celiac or gluten sensitivity include unrestricted bathroom access (with no arbitrary limits), permission to leave class or school abruptly if symptoms flare, ...
  4. This article might be helpful. It breaks down each type of test, and what a positive results means in terms of the probability that you might have celiac disease. One test that always needs to be done is the IgA Levels/Deficiency Test (often called "Total IGA") because some people are naturally IGA deficient, and if this is the case, then certain blood tests...
  5. Celiac.com 05/09/2025 - Zucchini noodles, affectionately known as "zoodles," trace their roots to the inventive spirit of low-carb and gluten-free cooking. While traditional pasta has long been a staple of Italian cuisine, the modern shift...
  6. I thought I'd share this article about recent findings that not enough gluten is transmitted during kissing to be concerned about: https://www.eurekalert.org/news-releases/1082120 What do you think?
  7. The article's focus is not on how to test for celiac disease, but the difference between celiac disease and NCGS. Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day:
  8. Celiac.com 05/08/2025 - Navigating a gluten-free diet can be particularly challenging when dining out, especially at fast-food establishments like Subway. For individuals with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity, understanding the available...
  9. Science moves forward on the backs of past studies and research, thus all studies are typically published in peer reviewed journals. For progress in any field to continue published research is very important. Unfortunately sometimes it leads to dead ends, but it's important to publish that info as well, so that others don't go down the wrong path.
  10. Let us know how things turn out--believe it or not it may help others who search and find this thread years from now.
  11. Celiac.com 05/07/2025 - Non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS) is a condition in which individuals experience gastrointestinal and extraintestinal symptoms after consuming gluten, despite testing negative for celiac disease and wheat allergy...
  12. For the celiac disease blood tests it needs to be 6-8 weeks eating lots of gluten daily, and 2 weeks before an endoscopy. Keep in mind that a diagnosis can also bring higher life insurance and private health insurance costs, so an official diagnosis can have some negative sides too. Another example is that many jobs now ask if you have a "disability...
  13. Side effects are a possibility, but certainly Big Pharma has had many successes, and my hope is that one day treating celiac disease will be another one of them.
  14. Everyone with celiac disease needs to make their own lifestyle choices--in my case I continue to eat out at restaurants and travel--while some people with celiac disease try to avoid doing either. Of course the safest way to go would be to do neither--but I cannot not accept such lifestyle changes. Since I've made my choice I try to make my dining out as...
  15. By the way, this new article is very relevant to this thread:
  16. The FDA doesn't regulate nutraceuticals like this. The AN-PEP enzyme has been used for decades in commercial beer brewing as a clarifying agent, and is no longer patentable, thus no pharmaceutical companies are interested in it specifically, although there are companies that are trying to develop their own version of it that can be patented.
  17. Celiac disease can indeed impact your menstrual cycle due to the body's impaired nutrient absorption, which may lead to deficiencies in iron, vitamins, and minerals essential for hormonal balance. Malnutrition and chronic inflammation from untreated celiac can disrupt ovulation and cycle regularity, potentially causing irregular or missed periods. Additionally...
  18. I just want to also mention that if you decide to get a blood panel done for celiac disease you'll need to do a gluten challenge. Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day:
  19. Celiac.com 05/06/2025 - For individuals with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity, avoiding gluten is essential for maintaining good health. While many are aware of the obvious sources, such as bread, pasta, and baked goods, gluten often...
  20. Yes, I only use it when I'm eating outside my home, at restaurants, when traveling, when at a friends' houses for meals, etc.
  21. Xanthan gum is added into the the flour mix--1 teaspoon per 2 cups for binding, but some people avoid it because it can cause gastro issues--if you're avoiding it, try 1 tbsp ground flax or chia seeds soaked in 3 tbsp water per cup of flour as a substitute (works well in no-bake recipes).
  22. I believe many cases of nearly positive or elevated antibody tests for celiac disease could be caused by a pre-celiac stage, but it may also be NCGS. Clearly some are sensitive to gluten, thus the autoimmune response, however it may be possible for them to never have a positive biopsy and flattened villi, while some may end up with damaged villi over time...
